I can’t stand scenes where a parent feels the need to talk about their relationship with their children. Teens have enough to deal with instead of dealing with their parent’s mid-life crises. Your child is not your friend, they are your child. You are meant to be there for them not the other way around. /soapbox

Probably more often on TV then in real life, but it does happen.
IIRC, it was my idea. It was a crazy theory then, and I still stand by it. 
That’s one of my big pet peeves about shows with superpowers. Breathing underwater doesn’t mean one can survive in a swimming pool. Fish can’t, so why would an aquatic human be able to?
