Hera and Athena (spoilers)

My memory is not working well with all of the craziness of this season.

When Hera was on the base ship, and was sick, and Boomer and one of the Sixes tries to comfort her, it does not work. Isn’t it a Six that says to Athena, when she shows up to get Hera, that “She (Hera) knows who her mother is.”

If so, then wouldn’t Hera have known that it was Boomer getting her from day care, not Athena?

Or, was Boomer to0 fast out the door, and with what I suspect was “happy” water, for Hera to make the connection and react in some way?

Thanks for helping me out.

P.S. - I HATE Boomer.

Either she didn’t have time to notice or Hera knew it was going to happen. That kid seems to have some sense of the future and she may have known it wasn’t her mom.

I can totally buy that a baby would have a more visceral connection with it’s biological mother than a 3 year old would.

There is a ton of intellectual and perception development between birth and 4 years.

You remember correctly. Hera has the Cylon ability to tell Cylons of the same model apart. At least that’s what Caprica said when Hera recognized her mom, who she hadn’t seen since birth.

I was wondering the same thing. There might be a simple explanation like the ones missmuffet mentioned. But, keeping in mind in her giving the notes to the song to Starbuck, I wonder if Hera wanted to go with Boomer for some mystical reason. The little tyke knows something.

Hera either wanted to go with Boomer or knew she was supposed to for a larger purpose.

Maybe she wants to play that song for Cavil, just kidding.

Yes, based on what the writers did so far… nice catch.

Wouldn’t be surprised… everybody seems to have an agenda… maybe the kid, too.

Yes, Hera knows something and I believe Hera will do something that will assist the human-cylon blending. Perhaps it will be Hera who breaks the cycle?

It also seems like the ability to recognize specific Cylons isn’t instantaneous. Tyrol really examined Boomer when she first arrived before he announced who she was. Even Athena didn’t spot her immediately. So maybe she incapacitated Hera before she had a chance to react.

Or…

Hera wanted to go with her, for reasons of her own.

I really am hoping they don’t go the “all-knowing starchild” route with her. :frowning:

That’s very likely. There have been a number of statements to the effect that being together is necessary for both humanity and cylons to survive. And I can see a hateful man like Cavil being opposed to miscegenation. The obvious reason for his kidnapping plot is the force the FF to rebuild the Hub, but it’s very possible that he’s intending to kill her to prevent to mingling of the two races, by killing off this example of it. The corollary is that Cavil is intent upon perpetuating the cycle, whether deliberately or not.

Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and help on this one.

As long as Hera comes out of the finale alive, that’s all I’m asking for at this point. Since she is the one to connect the humans and cylons, and bring the violence to an end, you’d think everyone’s priority (including Cavil’s) would be to make sure she lives.

But, its BSG, so who the frak knows.

You know, that’s one advantage of the sometimes fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants approach that the writers take to BSG. It was obvious from the beginning that Hera would be important, but because they weren’t 100% sure how she would be important, they didn’t spend a lot of time writing creepy/sappy scenes with her being all wise-beyond-her-years and crap. Hera feels like a real little girl, especially in
the heartbreaking way she was crying for her mommy in the Raptor with Boomer,
which makes her connection to something greater feel that much more powerful. IMO.

Yeah, that was very real and very powerful.

I kept seeing my niece & nephew at that age, it tore my heart out.

Yes…she broke my heart in a thousand pieces, and I’m not surprised it got to Boomer too. I’m hoping they keep that vibe of her “knowing” things, but not knowing that she knows them, like Kara. Only two eps left, though, so it has to come to a head soon.

Maybe, but I think the point of the connection was that Hera is special, not that a baby has a connection with it’s mother. So, Hera should still be able to tell Athena apart from the other sharons, just like the skinjobs can all tell each other apart. The only reason I can think of that Hera didn’t freak out about Boomer grabbing her is:
In that one ep. she runs to the 6 and then Athena freaks and shoots her. Which implies to me that Hera doesn’t fear the other cylons, cause she is one(partially or whatever).
