Help needed for web hosting

I looking to register a .com address for my podcast but I know virtually nothing in web tech or provider.
It looks like my podcast host can manage it for me once it is register but I still need to buy the address.
Anybody can give me some advice on that subject so I don’t get rip off.

Thanks to everybody!

I go through godaddy

I also use goDaddy … though I’m surprised your web host doesn’t have a registrar service, many do. Anyway, I bought my domains at goDaddy first, then found a low cost web space provider (PHP Web Hosting).

You’ll need to get the DNS server info from your web provider and then use the goDaddy management interface to point your purchased domain name at them. Luckily goDaddy has a lot of useful documentation and phone support, so there’s help if you need it.

As an aside … are people aware of Kevin’s Word Lists? They’re just big ass text files of English words, and their usually used for built-in spell checkers and the like. But, it’s pretty easy to parse through them and find all the words with a particular ending … like say “us” and then use the goDaddy bulk domain name availability checker to see if any of these are available as domains. That’s how I snagged iniquito.us and squamo.us. I don’t know what I’m going to do with them, yet. But I’m sure it’ll be pointless and pedantic!

My Podcast is hosted by libsyn.com and they offer a service where I should be able to ‘‘link’’ the domain there. So technically I don’t have a web host.

I was checking godaddy but with a name like that I was not sure about the site. Thanks guys.

“Squamous” is one of my favorite Lovecraftian words, right up there with “gibbering” and “eldritch”.

Yeah … that’s why I wanted it! That’s also why I quote the passage on that page. “Squamous and rugose … ugh!” (which means “scaly & wrinkled” which is pretty damn weird).

I had some fantasies about using it for a password cypher program, and then I thought I could just use it for email forwarding. I mean, come on … "cthulhu@squamo.us" would be a pretty cool email address. But for now it’s just parked.

I know it’s a weird name, but ironically it’s also the largest domain name registrar on the Internet. They’re famous for using attractive female athletes as “Godaddy Girls” and for outrageous Superbowl ads.

Avoid godaddy at all costs. A couple of my friends have lost domains to them. GoDaddy has some truly shady business practices.

I personally use namecheap.com.

Thanks for that info.

I’m partial to domain.com. Their prices are super competitive, and I haven’t had any trouble with them (so far…).
