Help me find a new MP3 player

My old MP3 player has been dead for a while. It was an early one, it had a laptop hard driive in it and therefore was a brick. Still it done it’s job well. What I most liked about it was there was no extra software needed to transfer files to and from it. When I plugged it into my PC it just appeared as another hard drive and I could drag my MP3s to it using Windows Explorer alone. It maintained them exactly like I have my music on my PC, arranged by folder.

So that’s the main feature I’m looking for in a new MP3 player. I just want to be able copy and paste all my folders onto it, and if necessary copy and paste them off it onto a different PC. I really don’t want to have to deal with any other software. I don’t care about it syncing automatically, or anything like that. Something around the 30gb mark would be nice, but I could settle for around 15gb if necessary maybe 8gb at a push.

I’ve looked at the San Disk Sansa and they seem to be drag and droppable. The Samsung YP-P3 has caught my eye though. Its manual mentions software that is included for transfering music, but no information on whether it is optional.

I just bought the hubs his 2nd Sansa and he loves them. He just copies his music onto the MicroSD card, inserts it into the player, and off he goes. His new one (an early birthday present!) plays videos and podcasts, so he’s moving up in the world!

That’s good to know. I’ve seen some Sansa review reporting difficulties. But then again the people who write reviews generally either love the product or hate it.

So right now I’ve narrowed it down to the Samsung YP-P3, the Sansa View or the Creative Zen X-Fi. I’m edging towards the Samsung at the moment, they responded to my email and said that it was drag and droppable. The 32gb version isn’t released until the end of the month and it’s not that expenisve so I have a few weeks to research.

We have this gadget selling at all 7-11 stores in Singapore for about $34.90 a pop (that’s in Singdollars)
