Help me decide a ship design

I’ve been developing a universe for a sci-fi story for years now (literally since High School), and I thought I had all the human ship designs pretty much figured out.

That was, until I was doodling during a meeting and came up with a new design that I thought might work for the human Jupiter class carrier. Now I can’t decide between the old “Tri-Engine” design and the new “Arrowhead” design, so I thought I’d see what you guys think. I made basic models of them in Google Sketch-up, so I have two angles on each of them. The Arrowhead design doesn’t have the launch tubes drawn on it yet, but it should be enough to get the point across.

Tri-Engine

Arrowhead

Uh…what’s it to be used for? If it’s like an industrial cargo ship Triengine. If it’s something that is actually meant to manuever, arrowhead

Like I said, it’s a carrier, however it’s more like a modern carrier that relies on other ships for defense than something like a Battlestar which can demolish enemy ships even without its fighters.

Arrowhead then. It reminds me of the Hammerheads from KOTOR and Legacy

The tri-engine looks too much like a sandcrawler.

I also prefer the arrowhead, military craft should always resemble ancient weapons…

Well, here are some of my other Terran Alliance military ship designs to give you a basis of comparison.

Melbourne Class Cruiser

NOTE: This is the first thing I ever did in SketchUp, so it’s not as good as the later ones.

Broadsword Class Destroyer

Sullivan Class Modular Frigate

Unconfigured

Escort Carrier Configuration

Very strong trek influences on much of the art. I think the arrowhead (with the ‘tall’ look) is more visually striking than the Flying Jawa.

i do prefer the arrowhead. the idea of launching out of the wings seems much cooler.

yea I like the Arrow head as well. it seems more military to me. The other seems more of a civilain heavy cargo/ Generation ship to me

Arrowhead and the Frigates.

What are you doing these in?

Google SketchUp. It’s a free 3D modeling tool. Honestly, I’m still not all that good with it, but I can manage the more angular ships.

And yeah, the Sullivan class design isn’t going anywhere. Probably my favorite of all the ship designs I’ve made (including those I haven’t been able to model)
