Hello, GWC family!
As you may or may not be aware, am I a composer of music. I write primarily choral works, and have just recently started to delve into instrumental composition. I have been doing it unprofessionally for a long time now, and it took me a while to build up a large enough repitoir and the self confidence to try to take it to the next level. Well, I’ve finally started that process.
As part of my entrance exam for Julliard, I have to present them with four original compositions from four different musical genres. The problem that I’ve run into is that all of my work is limited to only three genres, and I’m lacking a piece from a fourth. Now, I’m no poet or creative writer, and my choral works (at present) are other famous works set to music that I compose. I have written several completely original pieces, but their no where near the quality that I’d like to be judged by (yet… they’re going through a rigorous editing/re-writing process). As a result, I am in need of something new! While I could think of a great many poems or other works I could set music to, I want to do something a little bit different.
And so, I’m opening up the forum to you, friends. If you are a poet, lyricist or other form of creative writer and would like to see/hear your work set to music and performed, please feel free to message me your work! My only requirement is that it is secular, and not completely written with rhyming couplets. It can be about anything, in any meter and rhythm and any length. If you do submit your work to me, please let me know of any stipulations you may have (voicing, mood, tempo, et cetera), unless you want leave the musical direction completely in my control.
