Haven Episode 4.11 Shot In The Dark

Episode Summary from syfy.com:

Racked with guilt, Nathan sits by Audrey’s bedside hoping for her recovery while William lies unconscious but under surveillance in another hospital room. None of them can explain the mysterious physical connection between Audrey and William so all they can do is hope for William to recover and explain.

Across town, the Darkside Seekers, a two-man team of independent paranormal hunters, are searching the streets of Haven for anything odd when they overhear loud noises in a nearby home. They move to investigate and happen upon a dead woman with her heart eaten out. Scared but undeterred, the duo waits for the police to show up. Dwight notices the two outsiders and tries unsuccessfully to scare them off. In fact, they even have a name for the beast they think committed the heinous act: The Rougarou.

Later, Nathan, Duke and Dwight are all surprised that Audrey recovers without a scratch—as if she’d never been shot at all. The bad news, however, is that William recovers too and he escapes from the hospital. The next Rougarou victim is attacked right in front of Duke, Nathan and the

Darkside Seekers, Seth and Anderson, but none of them can save her. Strangely, even though the Dark Seekers captured the beast on camera, all that shows up later is static and the strange black goo that does William’s bidding.

After looking for a commonality between the two victims, the team discovers that they share a birthday—the same birthday as Duke’s new girlfriend, Jennifer. Fearing for Jennifer’s safety, Duke rushes to find her at the offices of the Haven Herald but when then arrive they find that the whole office has already been trashed. Turns out that the Rougarou did indeed show up but Jennifer was able to escape and hide out in a warehouse.

When the team finally reaches her, Seth and Anderson (who have made a pact with Nathan to share information), discover that Jennifer has a strange connection to a book once owned by Audrey.

When the beast finally attacks, they all work together to fend it off but Jennifer ends up saving the day by grabbing the book just when the Rougarou is about to pounce. It seems like the animal was dispatched by William to recover the book, but why?

Once things calm down, Jennifer notices that she can see words and symbols in the book that no one else can see—not even Audrey. Perhaps Jennifer is the missing link needed to save the town from William.

Episode Summary from en.wikipedia.org:

The Darkside Seekers, Seth and Anderson, a two-man team of independent paranormal hunters, have come to Haven to investigate a murder in which the victim was found missing his heart. Their instruments have led them to a house from which they hear noises and a scream. Inside they find a trail of blood and are driven out by the growl of something. As Glora, the ME, tells Dwight that the victim is missing her heart, he notices the two listening to the conversation using surveillance equipment and tries unsuccessfully to scare them off. Seth reports to the camera that the murders seem to point to a Rougarou.

Audrey is in hospital suffering from her share of William’s bullet would. He is in the next ward room. Nathan and Duke go to interview Jemma, who was talking to the last victim at the time of the attack. She is attacked right in front of Duke, Nathan and the Darkside Seekers but none of them can save her.

After looking for a commonality between the two victims, the team discovers that they share a birthday—the same birthday as Duke’s new girlfriend, Jennifer. Fearing for Jennifer’s safety, Duke rushes to find her at the offices of the Haven Herald but, when he, Nathan and Dwight arrive, they find Jennifer not there and the whole office torn apart. Nathan suggests they seek the help of the Darkside Seekers, who are upset that their video of the Rougarou seems corrupted as it appears pixelated. Duke recognizes the pixelation as the orbs that William controls. Nathan and Duke go to the hospital to interrogate William. When they arrive they find Audrey has completely recovered and William has disappeared.

Jennifer phones Duke to say that the Rougarou did indeed show up but she was able to escape and hide out in a warehouse. When the team finally reaches her, Seth has a device that detects the Rougarou, but it also discovers that the book Jennifer is carrying is special. Audrey recognizes it as the book that Agent Howard took from her apartment before Audrey first came to Haven. When she takes it from Jennifer the device stops beeping and starts again when Jennifer takes it back. The Rougarou finally attacks and Jennifer drops the book in the confusion. The beast comes upon her just as she picks it up and as it reaches her it explodes into a myriad of orbs.

The Darkside Seekers promise not to show the footage they have collected and go their way in search of new mysteries. Jennifer notices the Guard symbol on the front cover of the book, though no-one else can. When she opens it she sees a riddle on the first page.

So the Darkside Seekers. Ya. A run on the Ghost Hunter’s on SyFy I assume. Too bad they didn’t go with the actual Ghost Hunters. Or at least actors that play the Ghost Hunters. At least they make fun of what’s been happening in Haven. I mean who would want to live in that town anymore anyway? I not a big one for the Blair Witch Project or Ghost Hunters. But the Seekers devices actually worked! Or did they?

Audrey asks Vince straight out if he knows anything about William. It’s interesting to hear him say that this is all uncharted territory for all of them. So it seems that these people who were previously on different sides will now have to come together to fight whatever this is with William.

I love how Dwight claimed that everyone younger than himself can search for footage uploaded to the cloud. That’s is soooo something I would do.

So it seems that June 12, 1981 was an important day in the history of Haven. Jemma, Abby, Hank (the creature’s victims) and Jennifer were all born that day in the Haven Hospital. It was also the day the troubles started up the last time around.

Where were William’s two cronies this episode? And where are the horseshoe crabs? They’ve been noticeably absent for several episodes now.

I think it is safe to say that William is behind just about everything going on in Haven that’s bad these days. The creature made out of the little black jelly beans was his idea from the start just to get to Jennifer. And again, William doesn’t care who gets in his way.

I love the fact that they finally wrapped back around to the first episode. The book that Audrey gave Agent Howard finally re-surfaces. The Guard symbol on the book is…forgive the pun…troubling.

But I’m still unclear as to why the monster William created didn’t try to kill Jennifer. William must want something from Jennifer to keep her alive. Or maybe it’s just that he wanted her to find the book. We’ll see.
