Harper’s Magazine has a very good article in the March 2009 issue about Star Wars fans going on an archaeological dig near where the borders of CA, AZ & Mexico meet. It’s where the filming of Jabba’s barge took place for ‘Return of the Jedi’. When the crew packed their bags in 1982 a good deal of the ‘barge’ was left behind; our correspondent heads out there today to see what’s left. The story has its sad moments (a woman on the team bravely tries to reach the site on foot from the road, despite having endured 15 spinal surgeries); and, its funny ones (a neighbor decides to ‘help’ the INS by flying a model plane around looking for illegal immigrants crossing the border). You can’t find the article at http://www.harpers.org though, unless you’re a subscriber. Enjoy
