GWC Watch Frak Party: Bender's Big Score

I figured someone should start a thread about the new Futurama DVD due out soon (sooner than you might think  ). Hypothetically, there may be possible to watch this show now, but I’ll leave the moral implications of that to yourselves. I certainly feel no guilt, as I’m going to buy it anyway but there is no Region 2 release date availible yet

Has anyone else saw it yet. Ideas, thoughts, impressions? I suppose we probably should keep spoilers boxed until the officail release date, which I believe is next week sometime.

If you’ve listened to more than about five mintues of GWC, you know we’re big Futurama fans. So how could we possibly pass up watching and commenting on the first new Futurama material in years?

We snagged our copy just days after release, and have already watched it a few times. Our advice: ignore the mediocre reviews and obtain a copy right away. This feature-length flick wasn’t made for critics, it wasn’t made for new audiences, and it wasn’t made for film buffs. It was made for us, the fans. It’s an 88-minute thank you to everyone who stuck with the series after its untimely demise wrapped in an 88-minute sendup of Fox and the moronic executives who canned the show filled with 88-minutes of glee.

Look for a DTA podcast on this down the pike, and don’t be afraid to join the Frak Party to celebrate Planet Express’ glorious return.

Having seen this again recently, I just want to add that I’d forgotten how much fun it is to see Bender do all the things that you wish you could do – but won’t because they’re just wrong.

I love Futurama because the characters are surprisingly real. Futurama is a look at what the future would be like if all of us were in it.

I’ve watched it twice and I will have to watch it again with the commentary turned on.

If you are any kind of Futurama fan you will love it

Lots of time travel stuff. You’ll need to take notes!!

Jim

Good good, I had thought my thread had died. I quite enjoyed it. It was pretty complicated, time travel usually is, but they seem to tie up all the loose ends. It was definatly written for the fans with many different charachters popping up. Not enough Zap Brannigan though. I must give it a re watch. I really want a DVD copy, for some nice audio commentry mostly. I’ve listened to every episode of the series with audio commentry, I highly recommend it. But there’s still no word on a region 2 release date, and they wonder why people pirate things…

Anyway, it’s the new Futurama I’ve been Jonesing for. Roll on movie 2 I say.

I suppose saying that the DVD is out (in some places), and this is a clearly labeled thread in the online events section, spoilers are now fair game??

Indeed, though in classic Futurama style, everything resets at the end, so I’m not sure how critical spoilers are, anyway. I mean, I’d guess most of us don’t watch Futurama for what happens as much as how. Yeah?

Yep, I agree with that one Chuck.

I just want to know why no one was so surprised about the whole Nibbler thing.

Just Finished watching.

My sides hurt from laughing.

Recommend to any fan of Futurama.

Now I want more…

I just got this the other day and it is excellent! It makes me wish they(Fox, Adult Swim?) would order more episodes. Great show.

Someone needs to help me because I am bad with binary. What does the code on Fry’s butt mean?! Does it mean anything at all? The creators are such nerds that it can’t not mean anything.

I don’t know if they mean anything but here is what I worked out the sequence to be (assuming I’ve done this right, it’s been a while since I worked with binary).

Reading from top to bottom: 12, 18, 30, 33, 45, 51
Reading from left to right: 7, 25, 42, 42, 25, 7

I haven’t spotted a pattern or sequence in the decimal numbers. But if you look at the image it is perfectly reflected in the vertical plane. Also it seems to be inverted in the horizontal plane. It kind of looks like a figure 8, if you draw the image out, replacing the 1s and 0s with two different coloured squares. Actually if you look at it from the side, it’s not unlike the yin and yang symbol, only square and not circular. It’s the best I’ve got so far

LMAO. Good one, Magnus.

May I meekly, humbly ask a question? I have actually never seen an episode of Futurama. Will I still enjoy Bender’s Big Score if i watch it cold?

Maybe, but I wouldn’t recomend it. There are a lot of callbacks to previous episodes that would go over your head. I recomend the dvd sets. They aren’t overly expensive, hell it’s worth it just for the audio commentry. There still doesn’t seem to be a release date on Bender’s Big Score for region 2. I want a proper copy and special features.

Cool, looks like Futurama is available on Netflix. I’m in! So let me ask this—Is Futurama “South Park” funny or “Simpsons” funny, or is a whole different kind of funny?

I would say it is more “Simpsons” funny with the Sci.Fi. geek focus instead of disfunctional family focus. Well worth checking out. I suspect that after you watch the first few episodes, you’ll buy all of the seasons instead of just renting.
