I’m liking Helo more and more as time goes on–he makes for good stories. I like his combination of strongly held beliefs and drive to action. He does what he feels that he needs to do and then deals with the consequences–and the consequences often leave him screwed.
The first time we see him, he decides to stay on the planet that is being nuked because he believes that humanity will have a better chance at surviving if they have Baltar’s big brain with them.
Then he has to deal with the Cylons messing with him while he runs around Caprica.
Then he has to deal with Sharon, who has him completely out-classed.
Currently he’s screwed because he has to think about the consequences of his actions for others, instead of just for himself. I think that might be part of why he tried a cunning plan with the virus-lons instead of just shooting them and then walking himself into the brig. He’s got the internal conflict of moral qualms and need to be around to raise Hera vs. his devotion to the service and loyalty to Adama. Instead of just acting, he had to plot a cunning course of action–not his strong suit.
