In a shameless effort to get attention I have to put this here. I also have to ammend a previous thread I started. It seems the Army does have something in the works like this.
I knew last night I should look up PEO Soldier. Anycase here it is:
It was. Patches now have special chemicals in them in order to allow soldiers to tell friend or foe while using night devices. Also placement of patches is ciritcal to some foriegn countries either because of culture or friend/foe identification. this is espiecally true in NATO.
Yep–all true. We all know each other out here. Wash at the local Ralphs buying cereal, Jayne took all my beer…AGAIN. Least Inara took my mind off of it tho.
you have to. make sure you get a recent copy or any edition after the early 90s because as the author stated in the foreword to the SF Masterworks edition, he had to change some of the story because one publisher said it was too grim. The SF Masterworks edition definitely has the story as it was written originally.
So I’ve been gone a while, at least from this particular forum (sorry, but I got rid of my video game console a few years ago and I’m way out of touch with what’s current on that spectrum, and while I do intend on catching Firefly sometime in the indefinite future, I just don’t know enough about it, other than having seen “Serenity,” to really be able to follow a re-watch podcast on it) but it’s nice to actually sit through it again, after a few weeks’ hiatus (and it’s a nice companion for mindless busy work). Anyway, Chuck, I wanted to send you over to Galactica Sitrep (www.galacticasitrep.blogspot.com). I know, they’re a competing blog (and podcast, apparently, though I’ve not listened to it), but they’re a treasure trove of information on the upcoming production, and they were a great source on the progress of the writers’ strike over the last three months. They’re also really good at sifting rumor from news, so you won’t have to rely on what some DJ in Vancouver says.
Armando: Glad you’re enjoying the 'cast again. I definitely watch 'Sitrep, and as I’ve said before, I don’t feel like we’re competing with anyone. I’m glad there are lots of great people out there having fun with BSG!
What interested me about the DJ in Vancouver bit was that it was more low-level than the coverage I’ve seen all over. Everyone’s carrying the news that the strike’s over and how the agreement’s faring with everyone involved, etc. I thought it was fun to get a feel for what might be happening because of that.
re: Mass Effect and Firefly
If you haven’t seen much Firefly, head to your local Blockbuster (or Netflix) and jump in with us. If you enjoy the reality-based economy of BSG, you’ll get that same feel from Firefly – with a dose of humor and a strong jolt of camaraderie to boot.
I’ve caught a lot of hell about my numerous mentions of Mass Effect, but I’m totally unrepentant. What I love about BSG is that it makes me think. So does Firefly. And so did Mass Effect! More importantly, I feel like some of the questions that have arisen from the game – yes, including the green vs. blue alien discussion – are subjects that transcend the game, making me (and some listeners, too, as I found out via email) question my understanding of race and gender in a new and exciting way.
To me, this is exactly what GWC is all about.
That said, I’m really glad you stuck around these parts. I don’t know what we’d do without an Armando fix from time to time.
Yes, I drive a school bus! Yes, I wish you used a** less!
Asinine: a-okay! It’s a real word!
It is my responsibility, as a listener of online or any other media, to make sure it is not offensive to the tender ears of the precious cargo I transport! ACK!
You guys are among the safest 'casts I listen to! You just happened to go off on an a** tirade that I personally found hilarious, but cringe-worthy! My first route has only 2 Middle school boys on it, and they sit at the rear, out of earshot. I seldom play anything during the second route, as my bus monitor for that route can talk the hind leg off a dead cat!
I misspoke. I don’t play anything over the bus speakers. I play the bus radio for the kids. I just don’t have any speakers over my head (speakers are all located overhead on a school bus), and I can’t hear the am/fm radio myself, unless I turn it up loud enough to deafen my passengers, and that ain’t happenin’! I have a little imaingo speaker unit for my ipod that I play. The output is awesome, and is perfect for my situation. But when the all is quiet, as it often is in the morning, it may be heard throughout my 48 passenger bus. As was the case in your a**tastic rant.
I just love you, Chuck! You are all wonderful!
Please don’t inhibit yourselves on my account- I’m not worthy!
The crew senses no insanity whatsoever from your end. Your call was completely friendly! We just couldn’t help having a little fun with it. And yes, I’m a complete potty mouth in person, which you’ll likely discover at the San Diego meetup.
I feel like a bad GWCer, im still on #85
My OGer status might have to be revoked
But i have been watching Firefly, probably waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much of it too
I’m only a prig on the bus, which you’ll likely discover at the San Diego meetup.
My hubby is already combing the town in his mind for cool places to share- please give a shout about what you and Audra are interested in sampling. There are a number of fine Mexican, bbq, Asian, pub, coffee shop, dessert shop (Extraordinary Desserts is to die for, but expensive- killer coffee, too!).
The Cohn family restaurants are all fantastic- Corvette Diner is the fun 50’s place with rude/audacious servers, the rest are more upscale but excellent.
Gelato Vero is cool for coffee, tea, gelato & other sweets.
Claire de Lune is another cool coffee shop, sometimes with entertainment.
This is a rich environment for foodies and brewdies. Just point us in the right direction and we’ll come up with something…
My hubby pores over the Reader and City beat, and since his work takes him into the field, he sniffs out the coolest places. There are cool places for every taste and budget.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
love, me! b!
PS: I just realized I should have put this in the meetup section. ACK!
I just had to quote my favorite parts of this post, lol. Don’t worry b! Chuck had a grand ole’ time censoring the word “asinine.”
I love the whole hind leg off a dead cat thing. Maybe you should introduce your bus monitor to new music, starting with “The Sound of Silence” and progressing eventually to “Nugget” by Cake (see lyrics in the chorus here.)
I’ve always loved that tune – “Nugget,” I mean. Funny story: I’d heard it numerous times on a friend’s CD, which turned out to be a Wal-Mart censored version. Later I picked up my own copy and was surprised to hear it for real. Much better in the original Klingon, if you know what I mean.
Frakking Wal-Mart- yet another reason they’re not my friend. Yes, Nugget is an awesome song. And one that just gets better as the years go by since its release.
