GWC Podcast #84

Besides discussing this week’s GWC and Firefly re-watch episodes, we’re also joined by listener and GWC correspondent Leon Kensington who reports on the Phoenix Comicon. Highlights: we hear Leon’s first-person account of Wil Wheaton’s Comicon readings and Tim Russ’ guitar stylings, listen to Sean’s re-telling of his retail storeclerk Gundam run-in (and why yes, geeks do get laid), discuss Eye of Jupiter’s theme of betrayal, try to understand why the Chief seemed to hear the temple call via Cylon FM (and why Anders didn’t), wonder who’s really the “chosen one,” defend our no-guns-for-KITT stance, and question Kaylee’s great, great, great parentage.

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk to Audra. :frowning:

I just couldn’t hear her for some reason.

Sorry.

Not in the least, Leon. You did great! It was really nice to get a first-hand feel of what the con was like.

You done good, Leon. Kudos.

Leon - well played on the correspondance stuff. Sorry you got the Chewbacca diss…but if ya gotta be dissed by anyone…gotta be the Chew

Leon- Great reporting on the ComicCon. You made me want to shell out the cash to go!

And Chuck- The Sarah Connor Chronicles isn’t too bad. It may be that it seems better compared with the reality wasteland that is network tv, but there it is.

I am presently sporting the color of Rao and orbiting the planet of Humility yet I can’t escape the little Stewie Griffin in me that shouts, “Victory is mine!!”

Thanx Sean for the shout out of mad props and it is an honor to answer the call of “Where are my geeks at?” The GWC community is awesome and the crew ROCKS!!

I will carry my geek card with pride (of course the corners will be cut). Speaking of fashion, it should go well with my spring collection. I’ll be wearing a superman T-shirt and Babylon 5 baseball cap while drinking from an Initech coffee mug, and talking on a TNG communicator badge.

Good show Leon! I feel like an tool not driving the 76 miles north to go to the convention. (I am in Tucson) Wish I had come. Let me know the next time something geeky comes up and I will try to make it.

Know what this 'cast is missing? Emilyfromohio.

Emily is off listening to her new favorite group Eddie from Ohio. Soon we will all be from Ohio…I went to College in Ohio, so I am an Ohio wannabe.

No worries, Leon! Most people don’t know that my voice is actually pretty soft, and when Chuck balances the levels on the 'cast he brings me way up in the mix so you can hear me. I should’ve thought of that and spoke up! Thanks again for joining us!

You guys are most welcome. Anytime.

  • Athena/Boomer: Couldn’t agree with Audra more on this. They are two completely different people now. However, it does make you wonder - is it possible that the models can really be THAT different from each other. If each model (hypothetically) represents certain facets of humanity…how far off from each other can they be? You have Number 3 having a religious experience and they shut her whole model down…so (to the Cylons anyway) they all should be “cut from the same cloth”. Tho the new six is supposed to be the real fly in the Cylon ointment this season…so maybe pieces of each model really CAN be different from other models like it.

  • Cavil betraying Baltar…I’m still on the floor when that happens. “And if you order now, we’ll throw in Baltar…NOW how much would you pay??”

  • Megan Fox…MAAAD skills. Giggedy

  • Chuck says: “Know what this 'cast is missing? Emilyfromohio” - DUDE!! I’m sayin’

  • Baltar as victim…well of course he thinks he’s a victim…he’s frakkin’ Baltar! He didn’t do ANYTHING wrong. Dum@ss.At first, I thought it was guilt…like real extreme guilt…but then after a while…,yeah, he’s jus’ being a butthead. “Why won’t anybody talk to me?” Butthole.

  • Sorry Chuck - but that whole "Cavil believes he will never die…so, was Wilford Brimley a Cylon? Cuz he won’t grow old and he won;t even die…GASP…Cylons are old people swimmin’ in a pool with pods!!!

Possible reason for Mayhew’s reaction: I once heard an interview with Carrie Fisher where she explained that she had to sign away her image and likeness to the snake-oil salesman George Lucas. She said, “Everytime I look in the mirror, I have to send George a check.” Carrie is hilarious. This is what she is up to lately, check it out.

Anywho, if I had to sign away my image I’d be protective of my 200-year-old Wookiee persona also.

Excellent Podcast. Leon, you rock. Chuck, Sean you double rock. Audra, you are the coolest rock. Together you are Rocky I,II,III, IV, V and Rocky Balboa, and I mean that in a good way.

Score!

I love Rocky I

I am a Cleveland native. Will I go back? Very possibly not. Why? My only answer: “Lake Effect Snow”.

Yay! I got mentioned! I am so happy.

Dear GWC Crew and United Aplacas:

Thank you for brightening up a ridiculously hectic 2 weeks. While I have been too busy to read or post or even re-watch Eye of Jupiter, I have been listening to the cast. Things that made my happy-meter inch up a fraction include:

  1. The Fatboy Slim song/video that Sean told us to check out (I sent it to a Dune-loving friend who came into the office lurching around and walking without rhythm, so double points for that).

  2. Discussing Firefly, though I haven’t had time to re-watch that, either. It really is all about loyalty. And Zoe being a hot, hot warrior woman.

  3. Bob the Heavy Raider

  4. All the discussion of Starbuck and her particular dysfunctions. She’s my favorite character on the show, and even when I’m mad at her (the way I am after Eye of Jupiter) I just love her. Starbuck is frustrating as hell because she is hard to make sense of- she’s so tough and so fragile all at once. To put in my 2 cubits, I think she sleeps around a fair amount, but probably not with the other Viper pilots (she’s usually pretty good about not mixing those, since Zack). I can totally see her hooking up with half the Marines, though. Or someone like Billy, if Billy hadn’t been so not-Kara’s-type. The other great thing about rehashing all of K.Thrace’s drama is that the first time I was just consumed by this sense of impending doom-- now I get to look at it in such different ways. And all the different opinions are awesome.

  5. The Chief. He’s so awesome.

  6. Knowing that this is here, even if I’m too busy to participate much for a while.
