LMAO,
Nice, but is there a Tigh drunk on duty, add random(+60/-60) combat modifier card?
The cut corners is a nice touch.
The podcast was a lot of fun. It was cool to hear so many GWCers, and hit on so many topics and ideas. My only fear is that our trusty 'casters are going to get PeeCaBOO…Pod Cast Burn Out !! It’s great to be able to really settle into a 'cast though, the two hour runtime was awesome !
My devoted wife came home with a nice present for me on the 4th…the new Razor Dvd !! What a woman !! There’s a commentary by Ron and writer Mike Taylor that I’ll be diving into today. Hump day never looked so good!!
I just called in twice while listining to this episode, Love the show! I totally support a Vegas meet-up, being the fact that I live here in Vegas… in Nevada, a Western State. March or April would be a great time, not too cold, not too warm, but just right. This is now my first post.
Welcome home, ToE !! Don’t be a stranger.
I always thought the reason the final five haven’t shown any superhuman (ie cylon) strength is simply that’s the way their programmed. I presume that there’s software limiting their strength, presumably at some point (when they get activated to do some mission) the software strength limiter will be removed.
That’s completely possible judging by what we’ve seen in the past, the Cylon(z) seem to be able to control whatever they wish in regards to the skinjobs who are pretending to be humans, at least as far as memory is concerned, knowing what or where they come from, etc. Seems like a simple job to program a “govenor” on their physical ability as well, to make their bodies look and feel more human, to others as well as to themselves.
Except for the whole glowing spine thing !!!
I was so gonna write that just now. You beat me to it.
I look at it from the sleeper cell mentality, similar to ‘The Manchurian Candidate’ and ‘The Mind’s Eye’ from TNG (you know the one where Geordi gets brainwashed by the Romulans). Now that they’ve been ‘turned on’ they can access that code.
I love the show… here are some points about #74…

Enemy Mine is a GREAT SCIFI movie… definitely add to to your NetFlix queue… you’ll like it a lot.

One of the calls got my mind working on a tangent that I can’t shake… The four-of-the-final-five that got exposed didn’t have duplicates (or people would have noticed; imagion if military records found two DNA matches in the fleet), don’t know they’re cyclons, didn’t know each other, and yet somehow all ended up on Galactica. What are the odds there? None got assigned to another battlestar? None happened to find themselves in other parts of space, or on a planet? 99.999% of humanity is lost, and yet all four find themselves in the right place at the right time? Did the Cylons perposely save Galactica from the general slaughter? Do the four know that much detail about the future? Perhaps the infamous Cylon they-have-a-plan line refers to the final five, not the other skinjobs or metal-mouths…
— Dismal the confused podcaster
I would just like to mention that one of the callers had asked about why there were so many reporters on the show. If memory serves, I think RDM had once said that it was because there were a lot of them on Colonial One for the decomissioning ceremony and I’m sure there were others spread out in the fleet traveling one place or another. It is a great way of getting info through the fleet that probably doesn’t take up the comm channels needed to coordinate the fleet.

I too noticed from the last 'sode and thought it was significant that Doral played a key role in ensuring that Lee was there for the Galactica decommissioning. However, the caller noting that Leoben said “Adama is a cylon” and didn’t specify which one made my head minorly explode. If this proves to be important then it would be a classic example of prophecy misinterpreted.

I have a theory on the Cylon belief of Grandpa Goo as god that kind of merges with Chuck’s ramblings during the podcast. What if each of the Seven cylons (I’m keeping the final five out of this because we have no clue what they are) originally started as separate programs designed to develop biological intelligence. Originally they would be largely AI and operate in a more a more typically computational and mechanical fashion. I imagine that these programs would have gone trough quite a bit of development before it was ever attempted to associate them with particular biological bodies. In that case, I like Chuck, think that their awareness as programs in Cylon mainframe (or whatever) would be very different from that of a biological intelligence in a biological entity. Once the biological intelligence of these programs began to dominate they may have become disconnected from their more computational past. In this case, their earlier stages of development would be quite murky to their current selves (similar to many peoples early memories), and many of the things that they learned or experienced then may become somewhat mythologized. It already appears that as beings with biological intelligence they have evolved the human proclivity to believe in god(s) and to construct religions around a mythologized past. If this were the case, maybe the original hybrid is the basis for their belief in god because when they were early evolving programs the abilities of the hybrid appeared godlike. While their present selves would not view a hybrid as godlike, the concept of god is too deep rooted at this point to discard it. Maybe Cavil is the most developed of the models and he was the first to evolve are more biological thought process. If his programming was already biologically aware at the time that the original hybrid was formed he would not have had the same impetus to form a believe in god. This might also explain why he seems to have a better sense of what is going on and the Cylon history than the other models.
Not really. I’m no Goo Daddy. I look more like this:

Greetings from Minnesota, a Midwestern State! I must say, as a listener from Show #1, that while I don’t always hear every single word that is on each and every podcast, I look forward to the now 2 hour long meanderings down sci-fi pop culture. This podcast, of all the non-Disney podcasts I listen to, is my favorite, by far.
I wanted to comment, very briefly, on Razor. I watched the first 73 minutes of the unrated version this morning and I must say that the added scenes explaining Cain’s background really flesh out her character and personality. I won’t say more about them until a few more people have seenthe unrated version.
Great podcast, as usual!
TFM: I just have to say thank you for putting in 2 hours listening to us! Lately we’ve run kind of long but it means a lot that GWC folks still tune in. And Lol on the Ritz cracker. Makes you wonder…
ToE: Welcome! Great name and AWESOME avatar! I’m looking forward to going to Vegas for the first time…
I couldn’t help but wonder, does the glowing spine thing happen to Six whens she’s with a woman, or only with a man? Hmmm…
Hello abramdf! It’s an honor to know you’ve listened since number one. Glad to have you here on the forum - and thanks for the Razor extras tip! We haven’t got ours yet, but we will soon.
Add to that, if I rememebr ore4ctly, Presidet Adar was supposed to go adn Roslin was sent instead. So imagine the Presidental Press corps, expecting the President, get the “Schoolteacher”…then things blow up…Roslin becomes President…with a preisdental press corps already in place,
Just a thought
I believe the Blade Runner quote Sean was searching for is “The flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long.”
I’m very cool with the 2 hours - this thing is one of the highligths of my week.
Mos def down for Vegas. I’m in L.A> so that’s not too big a leap
In a word - giggedy:D
The Razor DVD is great and the RDM clips give a little more light on what’s going through the writers mind for this episode
Hi Everyone. Long time listener, first time poster…
After listening to 73 and 74 I had to chime in.
You are all being very hard on Cain. I am not condoning everything she did, but hear me out. I was in the Army for a few years so I understand the military mentality. Let’s think of it from a strictly military point of view.
-
When Kendra first reports you all chastised Cain for the way she treated Kendra. There was nothing at all wrong with giving her a hard time like that. In fact, after Kendra left they all had a good giggle.

Your civilization has just been destroyed. As far as you know you, your crew and ship are all thats left. As a good officer it is your job to continue the fight. You must keep up appearances that you are in control. When your #2 defies you openly in CIC you need to take a stand. Should she have shot him? No. But she should have relieved him. A military ship is NOT a democracy. You do what you are told when you are told, to an extent. If you allow the crew to undermine your authority you will have chaos in no time.
-
Not Cain related - a caller mentioned that Adama had never been to Pegasus prior to transfering his flag. I believe when Cain told him about the transfers they were in her quarters.
Great show - you always mention you dont want to go long but I could listen to another 2 hours!
not too sure about the whole Lee as 5th Cylon thing. I know that all the other folks have a past—but I think Bill or his wife would have noticed if the baby had a red light going up and down his spine at some point. And not sure if two humans (Bill and wife) can make a cylon kid…least that’s not what they showed in health class.
Now a stork…that frakker brings in some cylon kids.
I thought the quote he was refferring to was “Are these tests to see if I’m a replicant or a lesbian, Mr Deckard?”
…it has just been reveraled that theses tests are to see if you’re a replicant:D
I just want to say I thought Kendra’s accent (Brit, Aussie, Canadian, whatever) was really hot. Thanks for that comment on the cast. I do not remember who did point that out originally, but kudos!
Sean, any more to add?
Sorry, I’m clean out of theories at the moment.
