i’ve always kept my mp3’s on my external drive, they are still there. had to go through and ‘add folder’ all over again.
Concerning the conversation regarding whether Adama was “surprised” at the fact that Leoben was a Cylon at Ragnar Station…remember that Adama knows precisely why Leoben was sick…that there was something about the radiation there that affected Cylons. Wouldn’t it follow that he fully knew that Cylons could take human form? Not just him…but the military? They prepared a space station and loaded with weapons as a “last defense”
Grosse Point Blank…one of my all time favourite movies.
“You kill for a job then you get to…like it…”

Roslin did at times order Adama to do something (think back to the mini with her orders about rescuing civilians) or categorically telling him what was what (like fake-killing Hera). I think she usually works something out without resorting to direct orders because she’s committed to working with Adama in a cordial way.
Remember the RTF is, at this point, self-identifying as a democracy. One of the major characteristics of a democratic society is that the military is subordinate to a supreme civil power (ie elected leaders). Baltar would have been totally justified in giving Adama a direct order IF he had already taken his oath of office.
Another thought: anyone else find it to be a nice bit of irony that Baltar was so confident (cocky, even) which taking his oath? Especially as compared to Laura’s shaking as she accepted the presidency back in the mini, and the way that her breath caught in her throat as she prepared to say, “with every fiber of my being.” You could tell then that she took it seriously, that she was pledging herself body and soul to being President and doing her best for the Colonies. You could also tell that Baltar did not feel his oath to be any more weighty than a promise to have dinner with someone at seven tomorrow.
Here’s my theory.
The guy in the window that talks to Adama looks very similar to Leoben. Now, we may find in the next episode that Adama doesn’t actually put two and two together that this guy is a cylon. Maybe he does not do this until the miniseries since he has already seen this guy before.
Starbuccaneer, well said. First, I’m still confused about Baltar’s snippy order to Adama to head for New Caprica since at that point he had NOT taken the oath of office and was president-elect (as he so subtly reminded Adama in that scene).
Your description of Roslin’s sincere and frightened moment taking the oath illustrates one of the reasons I’ve always liked Roslin. She really does believe in that oath she’s taking. Even though later she becomes corrupt, I have never totally given up on her mainly because of those strong early scenes in which she was so determined to be morally conscious AND a good leader. Maybe there’s still hope for her to make up for her mistakes.
Baltar’s arrogance bothered me as he took the oath, too. It only makes me wince to watch him rush through the words, knowing he’s too self-serving to do the job and arguably lying at that very moment. While I try to maintain a “live and let live” attitude, I have always abhorred public promises of any sort that are intentionally thoughtless/hollow and/or outright lies.
i think the hybrads are going to become much more important that they were
^audra i like baltar for those exact reasons
i hate him, yet those moments of rudhing through the oath serve to thoughly amuse me
In my first watch through the 'sode the appearance of the guy in the cell didn’t even register. But I was also curious just who that was. I watched again after reading your post, but the window’s too blurry for me to tell if it’s someone I’d seen before. It sort of sounds like Leoben, but take that with the biggest grain of salt possible.
My pet theory originally was that young Adama would open the door in 'sode 6 to reveal a young Tigh. Going over the colonel’s bio on Battlestar Wiki shot that idea straight down, but think how cool that would have been.
I don’t know. I think that would be a little clicheed myself. Knowing the BSG staff, though, I know they could make it work. But it’d involve more than just a little bit of ret-con (c.f. “Scattered” and “Valley of Darkness”).
I don’t think the military knew that Cylons looked like humans. The stratosphere of the planet is detrimental to “cylon technology” according to the mini-series. To the military that meant fighter, heavy raiders, centurions, etc. Obviously, as a result, it meant anything the cyclons manufactured, including skinjobs. Besides, the station was likely set up during or after the first Cylon war before anyone had any suspicions about skinjobs.
Adamma was, most likely, the only soldier that encounter the alpha-jobs, beta-jobs or betaskins, whateva they were (yes I’m coining the phrases ala Sean). He probably reported it but the admiralty probably thought he was sniffing some stuff and waved him off. Or maybe he told no one.
Regardless, he had his suspicions, besides the point that Leoben raised a gun on his crew when they arrived at Ragnar Station. He also thought it strange that Leoben symptoms were getting progressively worse the longer they stayed on the station knowing what he knew about the station.
Sothe point is, the military was not aware of the skinjobs, but Adamma was the one that had suspicions or at the very least entertained the possibility via the experience with the beta-jobs.
I wonder if maybe the reason Sam survived (pneumonia?) is maybe because, oh, he’s a cylon?! Presumably they can get (at least some) human bacterial/viral infections, but they would react differently to them. If they’re physically stronger than humans, surely they’d be more capable of fighting off infections. Humans have different abilities to fight off diseases, so I’d imagine being cylon would/could add hugely to the number of variables.
Hera (Greek) = Juno (Roman) which has nothing to do with Isis (Egyptian). In fact Isis was worshipped by many Romans and there were lots of temples dedicated to her in the Roman empire.
At the time of Lay Down Your Burdens, Doc Cottle noted in dialog that Anders was young and healthy to where he might just come through the pneumonia on his own. Perhaps that was what happened just so that Anders could blend in with humans? I would imagine the diagnosis by Cottle was not out of the realm of possibility for real humans so that might have just been more cover and deception unintentionally.

Hoover was a bachelor his whole life and was always known to have a few very close male “associates.” I think it is generally assumed he was gay, but there is question as to whether he was actually ever acted on his feelings given his general paranoia and position of power. I think the cross dressing side has only risen to the level of rumor, but it has been played to comedic effect in a number of places (i.e., Red Dwarf and the Naked Gun movies). Although, Wikipedia reports he was once romantically linked to Dorothy Lamour, so who knows. Maybe she was giving him fashion tips???
I always love a Wooden Ship reference, even if it is in passing with substantial derision…
BabyDama: “We’re gonna get you out of there.”
Mysterious figure: “Candygram.”
BabyDama: “What?”
Mysterious figure: “Landshark.”
ps. The caller who claimed to have subsconsciously absorbed the call-in number… did he learn it from repeated podcast listens – or is he maybe a CYLON? And isn’t it odd that he’d happen to call in the same episode that the “Sean’s a Cylon” theory floats back to the surface?
OK, please, new episodes pronto before I start projecting any further…
I thought that Isis was linked to Aphrodite and also Demeter rather than being completely separate from the Greek. Reaching back to a long-ago Classical Civ course… I think that incorporation of some deities of the Egyptian pantheon into cults of worship among those loyal to the Greek/Roman pantheon came around the period at which many Greek and Roman traders and academics were traveling to and from northern Egypt-- places like Thebes, Thrace (THRACE?), and Alexandria, which were centers of trade and learning.
Regardless, however, Isis and Hera were not linked in antiquity, though Jupiter (see: Eye of) was also known as Zues, who was married to Hera. Athena was the virgin goddess of wisdom, also linked to Zues/Jupiter (she was born fully formed from his forehead).
It’s interesting that we’ve seen references to at least three distinct ancient pantheons.
In a few episodes, we’ll be seeing a fourth: the Valkyrie, from Norse mythology. And for obsessive freeze-framers, there’s actually another one: in LDYB, one of the ship names on the vote tally board is Enkidu, who is a character in the ancient Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. So, they have quite the mix of mythologies in the BSG 'verse, but I have no idea where the writers might be going with that.
Dang…was I that obvious? Yes. You got me. I am a Cylon. I thought my cover was pretty good, but you have blown the lid off it. Kudos to you!
