GWC Podcast #64

This week’s BSG rewatch brought Black Market, reviled by most fans who label it a “filler.” We actually like it – kinda. We also launched GWC’s new forum and store this week, and spent a bit of the podcast bringing GWC’s standard punch. Highlights: we note the shortest command in BSG history (Fisk’s, which is announced in the “previously” tag and doesn’t last through the credits), discuss Lee’s reasons for offing the mob boss and paying for love, consider Lee’s failed attempt to intimidate Baltar, remember that we’re getting ready to enter the “Helo Era” where he fills every rank and role on Galactica, bring up a tiny bit of Final Fantasy (“You don’t see many ‘Crappy Story VII’ games, man.”), learn that Audra’s not into short guys and that Sean’s weakness is Trinity pleather, hear Audra’s stock MST3K comment for Star Trek’s too-clean caves, wax poetic about action figures and fire, (mis)quote Abraham Lincoln, and talk about bare-midriffed stormtroopers. BTW: Don’t miss our group re-watch of Buckaroo Banzai over on the forum.

If I messed that up, it’s here:

I fixed it for you. You have to use the whole word “youtube” instead of just “yt” for it to work.

And nice find! Yet again, another example why Audra’s the coolest.

Woah…early podcast release…perhaps I can convince my wife that I need to mow the lawn again?

By the way, for Audra per IMDB:

Tahmoh Penikett : 6’ 2½"
Jamie Bamber: 5’ 9"

downloading now

Finished the cast. Nice one, although there was about twenty seconds of silence after Armando’s call. Was that just a missed edit, or did we loose something?

The female stormtroopers (and how did I miss that one?) are called femtroopers. There’re articles at SFGate and moviecritic.

While not exactly what you mentioned, the Rooster Teeth guys offer a ‘My Other Care is a Puma’ bumper sticker.

At least, that’s Jamie’s line and he’s sticking to it.

so anyway, you guys were talking about Christmas Story, and i live about 2 miles from the christmas story house & museum, maybe i’ll go overthere and take a pic. …and my last name is Farkas. - but in the movie it was Farcus

hahaha, i just heard my message

I really dig the idea of a pseudo-bookclub thing going on. You guys could even do something like this:
Make a new top-level category in the forums called “Octagonal Bookclub” (or something else suitably BSG inspired – hopefully I’m not the only one whom that title makes sense to :)). Then, start out with a sub-fora for suggestions. In it, people could create threads to suggest a book, and others could express any interest they had in it. If multiple people are into reading/discussing it, one of the admins could create the appropriate section to hold the chapter by chapter (or whatever) discussion on the same level as the suggestions fora.
I’d be more than happy to help with the modding of that part of the forums if y’all are into doing something like this.

I like it. How about “No Dogears.” (Too opaque?)

great podcast again, heres a few random thoughts I pulled up while listening

Most recently i heard on the Ender’s Game film, Card is sole screenwriter in charge, and they have a director attached, Wolfgang Petersen, director of Troy.

Unfortunately out of stock currently =(

cheers to Sean, love the Final Fantasy!

He had yellow eyes! So, help me, God! Yellow eyes!

=) thanks for another podcast GWC gang, peace

Score! I closed the show!

Thanks Solai! I knew Jamie Bamber was fairly short, but I didn’t think he was below 5’10". WOW.

Lol Locke. Great picture!

Seeing Felix the Cat again makes me feel old, LOL!

i just saw Tahmoh Penikett on a rerun of smallville a couple of weeks ago.He played one of Lex’s genetically engineered killers. Speaking of genetically engineered killers, bionic woman premieres on NBC this wednesday

5’10" is short? Audra, was your town in Upper State New York populated by giants?

“Round these parts, if you are not 6’3”, we consider you a midget dwarf in flats"

Chuck, in reference to “Dune”, are you going to read the trilogy in one sitting or are you going to take each of the books at a time?? Dune is probably the first seious Sci-Fi I read as a teenager, and I actually quoted a line in my high school yearbook (nerd alert!!), so needless to say I’m all for a “Dune” discussion !! And my Gods did the movie STINK !! I was so excited to see it and then walked out about 20 minutes into it, a complete disgrace !! But I’ll save my vitriolic musings for the future !!

Topgun…did you see the Scifi channel Dune series? I am led to believe it was a thousand times better (even given that it was a Scifi channel series)
