Saw Iron Man 2 a couple of days ago (There has to be a joke here about Australia being the only place Stark comes early right?) and it was great.
Enjoy it! I don’t want to post any thoughts until after you have all seen it.

Did anyone else get that vile taste in your mouth when the crue announced who the Star Trek D-Bag was? She is the reason I stopped watching DS9 in season 2 when it was originally aired.
I’d been under the impression that it was multiple D-Bags and they’d be doing one episode for each.
One of my favoriate TNG douche-bag episodes was the two parter “Chain of Command”. It was co-written by Ronald D. Moore.
One thing that’s amusing about this episode is that Captain Jellico doesn’t put up with Deanna Troi’s “I’ll wear whatever I friggin’ choose” policy.
And from then on, Troi wears a standard Starfleet uniform like everyone else.
From wikkipedia:
“Chain of Command” is an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that aired in two parts during the sixth season of the series. It was developed to establish the Cardassians as the main villains of the then forthcoming Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Captain Edward Jellico (played by Ronny Cox), is hastily assigned to the Enterprise, while Picard, Worf and Dr. Crusher are re-assigned to an undercover mission crossing the Cardassian border to destroy a biological weapons installation.
Much of the episode revolves around the differences between Jellico’s and Picard’s command styles. Picard, while reserved, trusts those around him and relies on the professionalism of his subordinates. Jellico is much more authoritarian, demanding strict obedience and exact execution of his orders. This sudden change in command style creates friction between Jellico and the senior staff, notably Commander Riker.
Oh yeah, Winn is such a great villian. That sickly sweet, passive aggressive niceness is creepy as she maneuvers to get her way. A great character.
I, uh… may have squealed and nearly swerved off the road when I heard the name Matt Fraction. Maybe.
Re: Civil War, I highly recommend that anyone interested in reading that read Avengers Disassembled and the previous Iron Man arc (I think it’s The Five Nightmares). It kind of seals everyone’s mindset for Civil War–particularly why Tony thinks registration is a good idea. And then follow up with Secret Invasion (gets into it a little more, particularly how things in CW got as bad as they did) and I think Siege is proving to be a good “Hey, let’s get stuff fixed” arc. (Granted, only 3/4 issues of Siege are out as of right now, but the end is in sight.)
I don’t think the pro-reg side was right in CW–particularly because IT IS REVEALED that a significant chunk was egged on by a few alien moles. But, my husband has ended up with the hugest man-crush on Tony Stark and after several discussions, I can see his side and not hate Tony for it. (Even if I think Cap was right, dammit.)
Also, re: War Stories, it’s my second favorite episode, right after Out of Gas. Mal has been my favorite Firefly character since day one, and I agree that both of those episodes are incredible character studies. Whoo.
but Kai Winn and Dukat made the show great… oh that Dukat… i can’t even bring myself to hate him.
Uhhhhh…in the upcoming rewatch “In the Hands of the Prophets”, the first time we see her I believe; she plots a murder, the bombing of a school, is an accomplice to murder and contributes to the delinquency of many minors. IMO - Ensign Aquino who actually performed the acts was neither a D-bag nor a Evil-POS, just blinded by faith. Actually I would call Winn the most evil character in DS9, perhaps the entire franchise. For me it’s all about intention and she will do anything, without regards for morals, to get what she wants or to turn them to her benefit.
I hated Winn…never stopped making mewatch though. It was a brilliant foil for them to all deal with…and she’s a great actress…
probably a sweet lady…making cookies…that will KILL YOU AAAAAAHHHH
I can…
Brilliant character though. it’s why I liked DS9 best. Realyl deep characters and good writing.
Whoa. Political controversy finally rears its head at GWC. And it took Civil War and Star Trek to do it.
Update:
GWC 217: “Chuck vs. Iron Man,” or “Ass, Aaassss, and Ascot.”
Ahh, Kai Winn, how I despise you! Everytime she was on screen I hoped they would just do a slow-mo shot of her getting strangled and then dumped out the airlock with the garbage. Now that is a villain. So easy to become jaded to that kind of thing but she took it to a level that made me want to get out of my chair and bludgeon an evildoer. Louise Fletcher is an awesome actress.
yes, i see what you are saying, but i want to put it into context.
First of all, Vedek Winn at the time believed that Star Fleet overseeing Bajor and taking control of the former Cardassian station in orbit is just an other super power seeking to control Bajor. Star Fleet is behaving no differently than what the Cardassians did when they first arrived, waiting for the Bajorans to welcome them into their house then take over.
The point is there are groups of Bajoran people who want Star Fleet to get out of Bajor, and Kira used to be one of them.
Now, some of those people tried to get rid of Star Fleet the only way they know how. The same way they got rid of the Cardassians. That is terrorist actions against a superior foe, plus a lot of political posturing.
I am sure that is what Vedek Winn is going for in that episode. Does that make it right, no. But I see where she is coming from. And perhaps not entirely evil. Though, definitely mistaken benefiting herself with benefiting Bajor.
Who was a skrull that was championing the SRA? Hank Pym but he wasn’t like the man or anything. Am I forgetting somebody in the government?
LOST Commercial Parody.

I really hope you got a chance to see this. It’s a fanbased parody that we made in my livingroom. After so much frustration, we continue to watch, so the end is supposed to be funny. Please let me know if you like.

It was revealed that it was mostly Skrull!Hank Pym who was pushing for things like the 50 State Initiative, since it would have enabled at least one Skrull in a position of power in every state. I can’t remember if that was revealed in Secret Invasion proper or The Initiative, though. (The Initiative was great, even if I didn’t follow it regularly. Taskmaster ftw.) Beyond that, I want to say I remember reading that he did put a few well-placed whispers in Reed and Tony’s ears that made things much, much worse.
Around 1:04:00 made me think of this:
Hookin’ up Sean. “You look like a retired porn star.”
That was in All About Steve.
There is also a Glee version of Poison…
