GWC Podcast #211: Live at the 2010 Int'l Meetup

This week we record GWC with a live audience of the friendliest people in sci-fi at the 2010 GWC International Meetup in Frisco, TX! Besides continuing our Firefly arc, discussing Shindig and Safe (with some serious Firefly fans), we also run down the week in geek including new Lucasfilm action figures, updated Conan casting decisions, a new Tron Legacy clip involving Clue (the new digital Tron), and Sean’s new favorite web series, I Hit It With My Axe which features strippers and porn stars playing D&D. Did you miss the meetup? If so, check out the forum at galacticwatercooler.com for links to the Flickr pool for all the lurid photos!

I didn’t listen yet… what’s the topic for #212?

LOL!! Chuck got a cold again,

To defend myself I was joking when I said that, I got a kick out of Sean and Adura picking on him.

Great cast guys. I’m going to hold off on going to a meetup till I can legaly drink since you guys all go to bars and stuff. What’s next weeks topic?

Group-sing Firefly theme totally gave me goosebumps. When’s the last time a podcast gave you goosebumps?

The last International meetup cast, the drum outro with everyone saying so say we all.

Just a quick note:

CLU was always the name of (Jeff Bridges) Flynn’s program/digital counterpart. He was the one in the beginning of the movie when Flynn was “hacking” into Encom. TRON was the name of (Bruce Boxleitner) Alan’s progam.

I’m in.

Oh thanks. The GF and I have been wasting a good bit of tonight looking at all the Dr. Girlfriend/Mrs. The Monarch cosplayers on Google images.

Thank god the hotel internet isn’t fast enough for me to do that…I can only imagine the horror some of those pictures might be. Almost as much as searching for Sheppard + Garrus or anythign Mass Effect 2 rommacne related on Devient art.

Most of them are quite tasteful. It’s Molotov you have to watch out for…

Cody,

Fwiw, there aren’t any places at the GWC meetup where you couldn’t be as an under-21 alpaca - the hotel had a bar, as do some of the restaurants, but it’s not required that you be 21 to hang out there OR that you drink at the meetup at all. Not everyone does; it’s completely up to you. Hope we do see you one day soon, tho!

Sounds like you guys had some fun, unfortunately I suspect crossing the pond is slightly outside of my budget.

Had to take a look at that “I hit it with my axe” fascinating really it’s like famous people are people too, who would have thought.

And now I have ran out of podcast backlog and shall have to find other additional sources of audio, but I must say many, many hours of enjoyable listening here and please do keep it up.

There’s a thread for that!

But, Tavor, that’s why we call it an “international” meet-up. As long as you’re not averse to associating with Colonials. You’ll find that we’re very fond of accents; just ask Nightwing. And welcome to the forum!

Finally got a chance to sit down and listen to the 'cast. Bit surreal to think I was there in the room at the time and my laugh is somewhere in the background. It really was a great experience to share with the Crue and fellow GWCers.

I wish we could have mentioned the return of Badger during the discussion of “Shindig.” The scenes where he holds the Serenity crew hostage, Jayne comes up with cunning plans like Zoe or himself getting nekkid, and River being able to copy Badger’s accent are some of my favorites. Is her reading of Badger and the mute girl in “Safe” the first time we see evidence of her psychic ability? I can’t remember…

Just call Audra by name with your accent and you’re in! You want proof, listen to the end of the cast again, i’m John. Au plaisir de te rencontrer bientôt.

That’d make a great tagline!

“GWC: There’s a thread for that.”

I really enjoyed listening to the live cast again. Even though I was there, Beef and I kept whispering to each other, so I missed a lot of it. I ordered my official meetup T and it looks great. I love that I could put DawnAZ (did the AZ instead of EZ because don’t want strangers to get the wrong idea) on it.

Somewhere, probably right this moment, there is a group of tattooed hotties playing DnD. Im not in that group right now. I think Ive been living my life all wrong.

I watched that, wasn’t that funny but it did pique my interest in Mandy Morbid. Blu Dow.

Yeah, not as funny as the WotC 4ed podcasts, but much easier on the eyes.
