Hearing the whip noises was crazy. I feared that echoing crack that it made. Brought back memories of running from my dad and his IJ whip.
Wow Chuck, you know you are allowed to take a sick day from the podcast once in a while. But thanks for being a trooper and doing it anyway. 'Twas an awesome one.
(And it did sound like you were having fun, despite your voice disappearing).
BTW, someone recommended Alka-Seltzer Plus cold formula to me once when I had a “voice-disappearing” cold like that, and it cleared me up pretty quick.
Okay, stevespin, there’s your next cartoon idea right there----> “… yelling, “COPYRIGHT!” everytime someone says Jesus.”
Great cast. Can’t believe I got Indy, Firefly and bacon all in one cast!
I’m really uncomfortable with what Sean said about Mal and bullying. I’m uncomfortable because I think he might be right. I’ve always sat back and enjoyed Mal’s handsome face and sharp wit. but when he might be vulnerable or wrong, he does push his way on folks. I’ve always hated when he calls Inara a whore.
One of the benefits of rewatching is seeing things from fresh angles and I think I’m going to be paying attention to Mal in a different way this this time.
Grandpa O’Hara again proves how awesome he is.
Audra had a quick throw away reference to the earlier and later movies, but doesn’t Temple of Doom actually take place before Raiders? Not that it’s really that important, but it may have some relevance when talking character development…
Now seriously considering getting a whip. Dammit.
I had a whip when I was in pre-school. I wonder where it went…I also had a legit Indiana Jones fedora from the stage show at Disney and a bomb-ass bomber jacket…I really need to find that picture of me from halloween.
Sean, Was the Ms. the one kicking you out of the mall?! Lol!
Lol, no of course not sis. A number of years b4 I met her.
Wait sis? How big is the O’Hara family tree
1935 - Temple of Doom
1936 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
1912 & 1938 - The Last Crusade
1957 - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
You are my hero Talos.
Hey, you got me to come out of lurking too!
I’ve got to agree - Mal’s the Captain, he’s in charge of his ship and “his” people, and acts accordingly. That said, I wouldn’t want to not be on his side.
Re: copyright and the Cristo Redentor statue in Rio…
First things First:
Ah ha! Catholic Church!
Though to be honest the first thing I thought of was - seriously? These are the things they’re worried about!? Between extreme racial inequity and poverty, I think there are more important things… but hey, given what the Brazilian church has cared about in the past, I shouldn’t be too surprised.
lol, yep. That be my sister.
re: the rio statue and casilda…
Show me the MONEY!!!
copyriiiiiiight!!
Lol!

I heard some of the usual digs at British Food on this podcast. Granted, a lot of it’s not very appetizing, but there are some exceptions.
In my family, for instance, we sometimes make Scotch Eggs. Those are hard boiled eggs, wrapped in sausage, and deep fried. Delicious.
Y’all do awesome curry, too.
Oh, my family’s American, of some British Descent. It’s just one of the things we learned over the years.
Speaking of Temple of Doom, I really like this one, but I feel like I have to bottle it up amongst the other Indy fans. People attack it with such vitriol.
I can only think of one reason why people don’t like Temple of Doom…it’s not Raiders. People are so obsessed with Raiders, with Marian Ravenwood, with Christian artifacts and the nazi villains, that any deviation from that is an automatic disappointment. I liked Last Crusade, don’t get me wrong, it’s better than “Nuking The Fridge”…but it also feels like a simple rehashing of Raiders to satisfy the fans who want the same old thing over and over.
I say bravo to Lucas and Spielberg for having the balls to try something different with Indy. It’s just too bad the fans wouldn’t let them keep trying.
