GWC Podcast #207

Heh. Hook up with a Geth. Sean, it did sound like that’s what you were trying to say at first.

Nice call, Thunderscreech. ^^

Anyone has info for the 7-11 ME:2 content thing?

Sean is into ME:2 porn. (:

I’m a Grunt fan as well. After Omega, I always get him next.

Former governor of MA. Deval Patrick is the current governor. Sorry, I can’t help myself!

One thing that bothered me, is how come Data could do the Vulcan neck pinch? d:

I said this during the frak, but Karen Allen is my favorite Jones girl. (:

I kinda felt sorry for the monkey nazi that ate the dates. But, that’s it!

I thought it was a nazi monkey?

I guessed correctly for the plane fight.

From IMDB:

The infamous scene in which Indy shoots a marauding and flamboyant swordsman was not in the original script. Harrison Ford was supposed to use his whip to get the swords out of his attacker’s hands, but the food poisoning he and the rest of the crew had gotten made him too sick to perform the stunt. After several unsuccessful tries, Ford suggested “shooting the sucker.” Steven Spielberg immediately took up the idea and the scene was successfully filmed.

Dunno why IMDB lists it as infamous…

The hat is Indie’s light saber. That’s why he never loses it. Plus, his whip too I suppose.

Do people think Simon ignored Kaylee’s feelings for him because he felt guilty for leveraging her? And, nothing was going to happen until he forgave himself? Or, no?

Ugh! I’m forgetting what was found out about Brooks. I’m not sure I ever knew or figured it out…

Sean, Jayne has a bunk, not a room. (: (People should get what I’m talking about here.)

I had to look up Library of Alexandria. ):

Was it mentioned that Jayne is in ME:2? He’s a quarian. The one with the strong American accent… (:

Chuck, have fun with ME:2. ^^

Nice podcast guys. I think 2.5 hrs is the max one should go. I love listening to you guys, but… Yeah. (:

Very cool. Thanks.
On a family vacation many years ago we drove pass a drive-in theater and that scene was playing. He shot the sucker just as we passed by and I remember thinking “I have got to see that movie”.

I always had the feeling that Simon was there for River…period. Especially at the beginning the only concern we see is for her. I think he is so focused on saving her and taking care of her that things like relationships are far from his mind. After time he develops friendships with them but by that point she is more like a sister then a love interest. I think he was more oblivious then anything.

How dare you! The cast should get longer each week. I could listen to GWC 40 hrs per week. Besides, with the segments you could break it up and listen in chunks.

For future reference, Dates taste like MONKEY DEATH!

With respect to the Frying Pan: When our neighbors came home and discovered their front door open we had a discussion about what to carry over to check the house out. We decided to wield copper bottom frying pans precisely because they could be used defensively in an enclosed space.

I totally agree on Audra’s partitioning of Heroes. I’m trying to explain to the kids at the moment that “heroes don’t kill people” as they’ve been playing games that involve shouting “I killed you, you have to be dead now”. I’ve been introducing them to Macgyver (the ultimate nice-guy hero) but they haven’t cottoned on yet. My 4 year old asked me if I remember when “Macguy killed the baddies.” sigh I guess I need to keep at it.

I did send in an mp3 but not sure if it got in (I’m less than half-way through) in which I mentioned an alternative ending for Indiana Jones 4. When Shia picks up the hat at the end an adult Short Round flies in from off-camera and kicks him in the head, picks up the hat and shouts “THAT’S MINE! YOU CALL HIM DOCTOR JONES!”

Hey Guys

New listener here, been listening since #203. Anyway love the show, after listening to the Indiana Jones episode I had to write in. I had heard that the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indy shoots the guy with the sword is actually improvisation on Harrison Fords part. Apparently he wasn’t feeling that great that day and was supposed to have a whip vs sword fight but instead pulled his gun and pretended to shoot the guy, Spielburg apparently loved his take so much it stayed in the movie.

Anyway as I said love the show and can’t wait for the next episode. Hope you all get a chance to talk more about Mass Effect 2 in the future I love that game and am currently on my third playthrough.

there you go brohan

Oh my god why isn’t that in the movie that would have made it all worth it

Great show guys!!

Especially with the Firefly arc now. And I assume that you’ll talk about the 10th character, Serenity the ship, in the future episode.

I doubt he was oblivious. He put his sister ahead of his own desires, yes. But, I think he knew. Had to because of Jayne.

If I stop a cast, I may not pick it back up for 5 days.

Thanks.

I am sure he knew, but I think the way he was raised influenced it a lot. That situation was so far from normal for him that the idea of romance never really entered his mind. The crew talked about peoples motivations for being on Serenity and they were there because they were fugitives, not because it was ideal. He was also probably raised to be attracted to a certain type of woman which Kaylee wouldn’t have been. On top of everything I think he was a bit shy with the ladies.

I’m just saying I never got the feeling that the leveraging was ever a problem after it was over. If he did have even close to the same feelings for Kaylee as she did for him he would have acted. IMO-I’m just sayin’.

Holy Craaap!

No can listen on BUS!! LOL!

I love you guys!

Pure Ossim Sauce!

Hey all! Indy’s revolver in Raiders is in fact a .45 caliber. They made that round for revolvers as well as for, later on, semi-autos. The casing was a little different for each, but the caliber the same.

Big frakking chunk of lead. As Scimitar Guy soon discovered.

.445 I thought?

I forget where the thread was, but someone here argued for Firefly as the best Joss Whedon show. At the time, I respectfully disagreed, but sympathized with the argument.

Now, however, that I’m watching Firefly again, for the first time in awhile, the poster’s argument is totally right: The show is good from the first episode. It starts good and stays good. No ups and downs. So Buffy may have run longer, and he’s done other good stuff. But pound for pound, Firefly has the highest average marks.

My 3-year old says, “Why’s it called Firefly if there are no fireflies in it?” We had a similar talk about Dollhouse.

  • I didn’t let the kids watch Dollhouse, but when they heard there was a show called Dollhouse, they thought it sounded great. And they were right, yet wrong. Yeah, great. No, they wouldn’t dig it. Not for a few years.

Great podcast guys! I laughed out loud at a lot of the Harry Potter porn titles. Even if I could have thought of a funny one, I would have been too embarrassed to call it into the show. :o

The first time I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark was at a Catholic Church lock in, believe it or not. My friend’s older brother snuck us in to see the movie- we were supposed to have our parents permission to watch it. It was on VHS, which was very high tech at the time. I remember being fascinated and terrified at the end of the movie, with the whole Ark of the Covenant aspect. I saw a show on Discovery a few years ago that talked about the Ark, and if it still exists, where it might be. The scientists managed to trace it to somewhere in Ethiopia I think. The village was closely guarded by the religious elders, and they would not let the cameras or archaeologists in. The archaeologists were not even sure if the Ark even still existed, but it was fascinating to think that it might still be around. (If it even existed in the first place.)

Ah! Good Point. We should comment on the “Serenity” versus BSG show names. =)

After looking it up seems they used two revolvers in Raiders, one a .45 and one a .455, at different times in the movie. The .45 is in the scene with Belloq in the jungle, and also when Indy is packing his suitcase for his trip to find Marion. The other pistol is used in the shooting stuff later on. And now I officially know way more than I wanted to.

Since we’re friends I’ll gladly give you the five-thousandths of an inch  Good call Prophet.

A little late but…

RIP Henchman #24

Why oh why did you buckle in?!
Im sure it sucks to be dead, but look on the bright side, at least you dont have to pay Doug back for the Stanza.

ETA: Fav Firefly eps= Out of Gas, War Stories, Objects in Space. I cant decide between the others as Our Mrs. Reynolds, Trash, Jaynestown, Ariel, The Message, Shindig are awesome. Guess Im in Group B

Bwwwwaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaa! I love it!

I will start a thread on this (or find the one I made years ago on subject) but as Chuck correctly stated my theory goes like this:

Everyone loves Firefly. Everyone loves every episode of Firefly for different reasons. However, at the end of the day when you ask someone what is their favorite Firefly episode they will fall into one of two camps:

Camp A:
Shindig
Our Mrs. Reynolds
Jaynestown
Trash

Camp B:
Out of Gas
Objects in Space

Both camps will profess their love for all the other episodes but at the end of the day if they had to choose one episode to watch over and over they will fall into one of these two areas.

I don’t really like Trash and I don’t really like Objects in Space.

I am Camp AB?
