This week: We talk foamy boobs and pod people in this week’s penultimate classic sci-fi feature, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Our fantasy sci-fi tournament takes a turn for the worse as our poor producer Solai is kidnapped by pissed-off Klingons. And we run down the week in geek, including a new, more offensive (and yet still fun) Hot Tub Time Machine trailer, Mark Webb’s desire for a second Spider-Man trilogy based on the Ultimate Spidey timeline, next week’s can’t-come-soon-enough Mass Effect 2 launch, discounted-to-sell Space Shuttles and SSMEs, and Versace’s upcoming Tron fashion line.
You had me at foamy boobs…
Summer GlauZ got a mention
Nice ME2 screams. Wilhelm? d:
Incredible X-Men??
Super saver. Lol!
You don’t remember your own mom’s fantasy team?? d:
geek squee for the shout out!
Chuck, I say this with love. You cannot Master Chief it, use technology when others aren’t, and bring a frakkin’ warthog on a date. I’m sorry! d:
Chuck was talking about Astrotrain the DECEPTICON triple changer (shuttle, train, and robot). Omega Supreme was the big sorrybarb Autobot robot/rocket platform. There’s also the Autobot Skylink who was a lizard robot and a shuttle too.
Are these TNG Klingons or TOS Klingons. Because TNG Klingons are way better. d:
Are they mining naquadah? d: (I’m not helping, I’m sorry.)
Whoa! Audra busting out the F-bombs! You go girl! ^^
I hive minded with Sean again. I wondered whether Solai was left unspoiled when Sean was giving his solution.
I love the pause after “He’s riding Data.”
I like Audra’s solution because Solai got messed up. d:
Christopher Lloyd played the main bad Klingon in Star Trek III. The one who had Kirk’s son killed.
Chuck read my mind. Lol! I like Solai, but Audra’s solution is funny. Sorry, Solai! I’m apologizing a lot in this post. d:
Omg, Sarah Connor in Pleasantville made my head explode.
Thanks Juan! Thanks Solai too for the scenarios.
It may be time to start a new campaign.
Edited to add humor.
Fastcart, yeah I wasn’t at my best that cast. My brother called after it posted and said the same thing about Astrotrain.
I KNEW it was Star Trek III!!! I even said so during the cast and got shut down. 1 and 1 ain’t too bad I suppose.
I am going to break my long voting silence and vote team Audra this week as well - for no other reason other than wookie love.
I do love the Save Solai though… perhaps i should make a shirt…
Who are the silhouettes? They seem familiar…
Sean, I think Chuck was trying to sabotage you and Audra by reducing your geek creds through misinformation. Chuck said both Astrotrain and Star Trek V. So, it must a concerted effort. (:
To the crew, I have an interesting observation. You seem to get more points for Entertainment the more the others cut up during your telling of your solution. Chuck and Sean made fun of Audra’s Elf pile, therefore it gave her a bump that category that week. If they had both stayed silent, it wouldn’t have seemed as funny. Therefore, the strategy you should use is to purposely leave at least one aspect of your solutions open to ridicule (like having Solai violated except Sean’s fault because he brought it up during Audra’s solution instead of his own), have the others pick up on it, and then round it up with Thoughtfulness, etc.
The flip side, unfortunately, if you purposely try not to make fun of someone’s solution, it’ll hurt the cast. Or, if it was too obvious a ploy, the voting public may call you on it and it’ll hurt your Originality, etc., scores.
If anyone wants to hire me as a Sci Fi Fantasy League coach or manager (or even mascot), I’m available. d:
Edit: Oh, and I always thought Omega Supreme’s name sounded like a pizza. d:
Could be wrong, but if you’re referring to the group of people walkign inth elower left - pretty sure it’s from Trek VI:TUC when Kirk, McCoy and he shapeshifting Wookie chick were walking on Rura Penthe…
Chuck - Christopher Lloyd…in Trek V??? heavy sigh say it ain’t so, man…
And once again proving why David is the man.
I took a screencap and edited in Solai and Sy shaped bodies on the back of Data and Aragorn respectively. It is now, starting left: Aragorn/Sy, Sam and Data/Solai.
Another reason we need video. It got very quiet after he said that and I don’t think Sean wanted to argue the point. Maybe it was one of those times that the other person was so wrong that it makes you question your own knowledge. IYKWIM:confused:
Nice catch. I missed that was supposed to be Rura Penthe, but I see it now.
Nice work. I was looking at them wrong and thought, “What do dwarves have to do with this mission? Wait, they may not be dwarves.” That’s not a crack on your photoshop ability. That’s a crack on my perspective and way of thinking. d:
Chuck Bwana’d Sean. He went for Sean’s weakness. “Sneaky little hobbitses. Wicked, tricksy, false!” d:
FWIW, I’d never knowingly sabotage one of my fellow cruemembers. It just wouldn’t happen. Give 'em s***? Sure. But I take it well, too.
re: ST:V, mah bad. Whenever I think of surprise Klingons, I always think of the infamous gunner in ST:V. It was late, so oops.
re: Astrotrain, that was indeed who I was thinking of. I was just trying to help out. If I’d really wanted to throw him under the bus, I’d have pointed out that none of the Autobots can fly, and none of the Decepticons (like Astrotrain) would help out Bumblebee. They’d kick his ass and leave him to die, as per usual. But hey – a little latitude makes the game more fun.
FWIW, Sean wasn’t messing w/me, either. He was just being helpful w/his ST:III catch. I’m sure he didn’t push it because it doesn’t really affect the fact that Doc would make a fine Klingon.
I just want to agree with Sean and say… hum hum : AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
That was so Good!
Not done yet, felt like commenting before I forget…
Glad I am not the only only who loved Garus in ME1, probably my favorite character. If I’m feeling ambitious I might do a Fenatic signature weird photoshop of Garus with an 1800s monocle.
Regarding the space shuttles, right now the Enterprise is already in the Air and Space museaum in Dulles Virginia. (Not the one in DC). That’s the same place that they filmed Transformers 2, in the scene where the find Jetfire, the SR-71. I got some pictures around here somewhere…
Ok, this isn’t mine but you get the idea:
I’m with Chuck on the Space shuttle main engine, that would be too cool to have in your back yard! And just to be clear, it has a diameter of about 10 feet I think, probably about 20 feet tall. Also, I doubt the home owners association has a rule against it…
Glad to hear Mr. Tron himself will have a large role in TRON 2! It only makes sense.
Off to listen to the rest!
I’m sorry and regretful if you thought I was being serious about you sabotaging. I thought I used copious amounts of smilies and tongue in cheek statements, but intentions can still be lost with them.
I still ache from that solution. I would like to think in Chuck’s solution Anna comforts me. A lot.
Chuck, when you were talking about your love for Trek, I just wanted to mention that my mood decides which Trek I’ll watch as well. Certain episodes remind me of things that have happened in my life.
When I had the chicken pox and spent weeks in bed watching Original Series episodes and reading novels. Watching TOS episodes with my dad. Going to see Wrath of Khan with my whole family one Easter. During High School, watching TNG episodes when I got home from packing groceries and then when I was in college after night school flipping on the TV and watching Picard and crew before I went to bed.
I could go on. It is so ingrained and a part of my life. I totally understand why you chose it for your all-time favorite. Like you and many others, I love a bunch of different sci-fi series, like Asimov’s Robots / Foundation, Star Wars, Heinlein, etc. but Trek is my first love. It’s just a given. In many ways, it raised me. It is part of my family.
I’m curious. Were the bulls gentle? What’s it like riding an android?
Interestingly, I have the Astrotrain toy, and this is not the same coloring. I’m guessing they did a repaint sometime afterward to make the coloring a little more familiar. The dark grey and purple didn’t really provide a good disguise… Definitely the same molds though.
That was just a random picture I found on Google. I couldn’t find a satisfactory cartoon pic of him with the effort I put in. d:
G1 toys got a nod in Beast Wars. (:
Rattrap: “Oh man! That ship wasn’t built; it was poured!”
Prmal: “Die cast construction! It’s a lost art.”
– “The Agenda” III
Heya Chuck,
Not sure I completely understood where you were coming from when you talked about NASA’s Space Shuttle program coming to an end. I’m not as up on all this stuff as much as I should be. Was there some particular news within that last week that inspired what you were saying about the Space Shuttle?
My understanding is that the Space Shuttle program coming to an end this year was totally expected and not a surprise. The Space Shuttles are getting old, and it would be unsafe to keep them flying.
Now, it can be argued that it’s outrageous that there’s nothing ready to replace them.
But there certainly are plans for such like the Constellation.
And the Ares capsule
My understanding is that NASA is gonna be in a transition phase over the next 3 years or so as they work toward building those new spacecraft.
Now, the problem is they might not get funding at all for these things and that totally sucks.
I’m glad to see at leas that NASA continues to envision stuff, even though they don’t always get the funds to implement 'em.
Any, I’m just wondering whether your objection is the Space Shuttle program coming to an end or the fact that NASA’s future seems kinda slow and sluggish?
