GWC Podcast #187: Stargate SG-U

Regarding Eli and the turning of the hat.

During the first viewing of Stargate: Universe, I didn’t like the Eli character. I felt he was trying too hard to be cool. Rather than just being himself and allow the cool to flow. He reminded me of Sam Witwicky meets Seth from Superbad. It really annoyed me and I figured this was what Chuck was talking about in his rants about the portrayal of geeks in the media. The clincher for me was when Eli turned his hat backwards dressed in fatigues at the end.

Upon listening to this 'cast, apparently I was wrong. Y’all loved him.

If I enjoyed teen drama shows, I’d totally watch One Tree Hill for her.

I should really start watching Myth Busters.

Edit: Also, Ferguson is so much better than Letterman. Why is he still on after Letterman??

Nice to see someone else named Shooter around…even if it was only for the pilot.

Shooter McSenatordbag, we hardly knew ye.

Aw, don’t be like that. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you were wrong. Maybe everyone else was. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately the Stargate Worlds MMO may never actually become a real product.

As to the cast flying out of the stargate. This has happened several times before. Figure it is a dramatic tool to show that the wormhole is not 100% okie dokie, since that is pretty much when they have used it in the past.

In rewatching tonight, I was pleased to note that our very own GWC Bookclub Winner John Scalzi is listed as Creative Consultant for the series! This bodes well for those of us who love his writing.

He’s got a blog, and he frequently talks about SGU. To be clear, though, he doesn’t actually write for the show, he suggests sciencey changes to scripts (which bodes just as well, IMHO.)

I watched SG-U Part 1+2 a few nights ago.
I liked it. I’ll keep on watching, see how it develops.
Last night I had a dream about it. Baltar was in it.
Weird.

I also just watched SG-U (last night), all 3 Air episodes - and loved it. Can’t wait to get to listen to the 'cast, and I’m definitely looking forward to a new episode this weekend

Chuck - Why don’t you like Defying Gravity? I was really surprised by this, because I seriously love this show, and often my tastes match up with yours…

Having just finished Voyager - I wasn’t bothered by Janeway being mostly consistent in refusing to harm others (or enable greater harm) in order to get her people home faster. It just seemed consistent. That said, I thought the finale was disappointing, though I did like the twist with old Janeway.

On SG-U the term “kino” throws me off because that’s what part of the Chilean lottery is called

kino = chilean lottery

In all seriousness, Carl Castle on the answering machine would be awesome. I grew up listening to him read the news in the mornings!

And even I’m too old for Power Rangers - the kids I was babysitting really liked them, though :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree, I picked up the first 9 epsiodes while I was home and really started liking it, it’s got a little lost feeling to me. the crew has been talking about red dwarf so much I also had to pick that up, it’s a little dated but fun at the same time. some people come over to me while I’m watching in on my IPOD and ask whats so funny, and I have to tell them, their wouldn’t understand.

And for Audra - I like that you bring up feminist stuff, because those are often the things that catch my attention, too. As has already been established, you rock!

Rush went up a few points for me after he got some sleep. He’s still a dbag, but less so. We all knew he wouldn’t apologize right?

Yay for Eli being an MIT dropout. I have to root for him now, but too bad we already know he won’t get Chloe. And, I don’t see him getting the female half of the book shelf humpers either.
