I’ve really been enjoying the negative reviews. Critics put so much more energy when they hate the movie. I am still looking forward to seeing the movie. What made me like the first movie was the giant battle at the end. The first two hours were just a decent movie but the final battle turned the movie from average to amazing. I wouldn’t really mind if the movie lacked a plot or complex characters. It will be fun to see.
A more honest and appealing response for a reviewer would be-
“It is not my kind of movie, but I can understand why some people might find find it enjoyable.” (And then sights examples of the vivid battles and special effects)
That would not turn people off or alienated them, after all isn’t the point of having a blog to ‘attract readers’? Not drive them away?
Meh, vitriol is interesting. There was a guy who used review for the Washington City Paper (Mike Something) who hated EVERYTHING. I read him religiously.

I have never seen this movie! I want to see it before I see the second one. The 2nd movie looks cool! I like twin Bots!

I wouldn’t want it permanently, but I’d like to be able to do Brad Pitt’s gypsy-Irish accent from Snatch. The movie totally frickin’ rules.
I don’t disagree w/ a lot of the negative reviews. I saw Trans 2, and yes I know it’s taking in craploads of money, but my reaction was primarily, “ehhh”
So last night, I popped in Trans I on Blu ray and I have to say, it’s a much better movie in my opinion.
Fallen does more than “travel at the speed of kid” to me. I gave it a try, but it was somewhat indecipherable in parts…I guess it’s just me, but I couldn’t tell half the transformers apart when they were all rolling around and doing battle in the desert…
I rewatched the first movie to see if I felt the same way, and I didn’t. The humor seems less forced in the first one, more time on character development and yet still with bad ass battle scenes. Fallen just was one big explosion after another. It was fun to look at, but in the end, sound and fury signifying nothing. And, I don’t think there was enough Bumble in Trans 2…
As for the podcast on 2007 Trans…it was nice to hear some Lost in Space love. I too thought that movie got a bad rap. Great cast: William Hurt, Gary Oldman, Matt LeBlanc, Lacey Chabret (?SP) cool robot, fun special effects. Nice update on the theme song. I have no idea why it gets trashed so much, either. I’d love to see that cast again in a sequel–but not meant to be.
I will third that opinion of Lost in Space, I enjoyed it immensely!
I’m with you on being a Harry Potter fan… Am I foolish for imagining how my scholastic career would be radically changed if I was able to attend Hogwarts (even as a Hufflepuff), and would be infinitely cooler?

I have seen the second film, and I think I must comment about the backlash in regards to the Twin Autobots’ significant accents. Some have called the accent a sort of African-American ‘jive’, some call it a guttural deep-Southern twang.
I am aware of how the accented speech sounded, and unfortunately I can see how the minority of gripers might have gotten riled up. I didn’t think these things when I heard the voices, I promise. I think that the people who are all up in arms about it are a tiny, but vocal minority.
Having said that, and having thought about it myself, I strongly suspect that these dialectical accents were a very unfortunate choice by people who didn’t anticipate what a bad choice that they were making.
