GWC Podcast #171: Transformers (2007)

We catch up with the 2007 live-action Transformers movie in preparation for this week’s Transformers 2 premiere! Highlights: we discuss the movie’s awesome soundtrack, point out the movie’s awesome demostrations of the practical aspects of transforming, discover just how cool a homie Bumblebee can be, learn that Chuck is sadly underinformed re: Australia, note that Sam’s mom seems to really have it together, again almost lose it watching S7 bastards torture Bumblebee, enjoy the movie’s Heartbreak Ridge moment, and talk Unicron poo. Don’t miss our NYC meetup and live-audience podcast next weekend!

On ITunes it gave me podcast 170 with the show info from 171.

Problem was corrected very shortly after posting. If you got episode 170, just reload to get 171.

Sean how can you like Twilight whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Heh. I would’ve lost that bet, myself.

But then, I was on to the Harry Potter series pretty early (c. book two or three) and that surprised a lot of people.

Glad I’m not the only one that enjoys Lost in Space. One of the best parts though? The Pilots (Joey’s) intro space battle and then later his little case that he pulls a segmented Stargate like flip open helmet and laser rifle out of to blast the spiders

I was not into Harry Potter at all until I got the 3rd book for christmas, put it away for awhile. Picked it up when I was bored, read through it real quick and then went and got the first two and plowed through um and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Actually, I have heard of at least one place where an American accent is an asset: The City of London (which is their Wall Street.) American (I’m guessing Broadcast Standard-ish) accents are thought to be very ‘business-like.’

Now, I’m not sure if that perception has changed over the past year or so…

Just started listening to the podcast and gotta comment on Sean’s comment that he doubt’s we’ll see Grimlock. Just to maybe get your interest, on the Transformers HD DVD there are several “Intercepted Sector 7” videos as downloadable web extras. One of those videos you clearly see a T-Rex transformer walking down the street. You don’t hear it speak, but… It was pretty clearly Grimlock. Seeing that definitely say’s they thought about the Dinobots.

You can see it the promo site for the 2007 movie at http://www.sectorseven.org (You will need popups enabled)

Password is “codeblack”

Double click on the red drive icon on the left side of the screen. A little window pops up. Select NBE 08 to watch the video.

There are 42 different Transformers in the new movie (compared to 12 in the '07 one) so I’m gonna keep my hopes up!

Yup, that’s the one!

I did a search on the forum and to my amazement, gundam didn’t return any results… I am sure I’ve heard Sean mention it once or twice.

Anyway… in the spirit of giant robots… here’s what some Japanese dude did in his back yard… talk about fan devotion…

Here’s a link to the story about the Governators floppy testicle.

So one of my best friends is in the Air Force as an AWACS controller. She loves this movie and loves pointing out that she’s friends with a lot of the people in the AWACS scene. She’s equally fond of pointing out that their screens are off if you look closely.

Dang, Major Hate on Trans 2… I usually don’t pay much attention to critics, but there are some I respect, and he’s one.

Aw, come on. The review wasn’t all bad…
"…briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments. One of these involves a dog-like robot humping the leg of the heroine. Such are the meager joys."
I’m assuming that was sarcastic! The review was entertaining…but one star, and hammering on the plot…

If I didn’t know any better I would say that was designed to make fun of Cloverfield.

Haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but Omigoshwe’redoingHarryPotterasthenextarc?!?!?!:D:D

WOOT!!

I’m done now.

I just gotta say, I love John Turturro in this movie.
He is so great at playing quirky characters.

Pfft, Ebert hated “Fanboys” and fell asleep during the special edition rerelease of “The Empire Strikes Back.” The only time I pay attention to him these days is when he’s chewing out Ben Stein :stuck_out_tongue:
