Nope - she stayed.
very entertaining…and so appropriate for this topic thread
I would like to take a raptor to bring her back!
rockin’ cast as usual guys. sounds like it was a blast!!!
Yes, loved the audience… Can you give them a microphone?
I’m pretty satisfied with the finale. While some of the decisions feel shoe-horned in, I did like the majority of the choices.
The Good
- Space fight porn, with a Centurion 2.0 killing a Larry Centurion gangland style;
- GI Baltar and his ill-fitting uniform
- Starbuck: “Can we not tell her the plan?”
- Laura to Cottle: “Don’t ruin your image. Just light a cigarette and grumble.”
- Baltar actually growing up in the final 2 minutes of the show in accepting his past as a farmer, and embracing it. His minor breakdown has an evolutionary leap for a character who’s been unwilling to embrace his past.
- Tigh’s comment: “It’s not too late to push them all out of the airlock.”, and his laugh after Bill made the joke at Baltar’s expense on the planet.
The Bad
- Poof! And away goes Starbuck.
- Cavil eating a bullet. While it was consistent, and I wanted him dead, I also wanted him killed, and killed most rigtheously.
- Everyone just goes their separate ways, just like that?
- Robots = death; I’m returning the Roomba that I got for Christmas - I don’t want to perpetuate the cycle.
- No more BSG…and The Plan doesn’t count. It can’t help but be a let down.
Think Hitler denying others that same wish.
I loved most of the episode (the fight, Admiral Hoshi, all the prophecies and music unravelling, Cavil’s suicide), disliked some of it (Kara just disappearing, and to a degree the colonial’s sudden irrational hatred of penicillin…I might buy them all agreeing on something, maybe, but not on such a silly and divisive issue…plus, keep the damn ships around, just in case folks…I can buy them settling down, I liked that part, but 2+2 doesn’t equal getting rid of every calculator).
In the end though I found myself . . . not needing any more BSG. And I don’t mean that in a bad way at all, I think Ron Moore crafted a very good ending for the sake of pulling the series to a close, leaving a satisfying feeling. Except for Kara. WTF. Okay seriously now I’m just figuring that it deserved a fuller explanation than simply her being an Angel and disappearing. I mean, did her Viper disappear too? Was it her Viper burning up in the Sun that made her vanish? Why the hell can’t something that can create an entire person and whisk her away later create a Viper that’s as worn as her old one? And that’s just the first three questions that spring to mind about her Viper. Ugh. And no, I’m not just annoyed with things being left in the air or vague, actually those are some of my favourite endings, re: The Foundation Series, but this was a case of dangling obviously meaningful clues, constantly pointing at them, and then just dropping them.
But I don’t mean to be negative, and actually, I have a bit of hope that the prequels (ie. The Plan and Caprica) will at some point elaborate on the mythology. At least, I really really hope so. I guess we don’t have to wait too long for the first two hours of Caprica, but ages for The Plan strangely.
As for the actual 'cast, awesome, especially the audience. Oh, and I totally burst out laughing at Audra’s Settlers of Catan joke And in an absurd (maybe even God-contrived?) coincidence I was actually playing Pioneers at the time (a Settlers clone, entirely free and open source…actually hey, since it’ll run on any remotely modern computer, there’s no real excuse for GWCers not to be playing Settlers/Pioneers against eachother, yaknow? Or at very least idling away these now-BSG-less days playing against the AI, heh).
That is rather profound.
We had a standing microphone but it would have been to stiff to have to line up to make a comment. The way it was we were just an extension of the discussion.
No, you don’t have to return it; you have to be nice to it.
Say “Please.”
Being mean to Robots = Death.
“Attention all centurions: This is Anders, the new hybrid – you know, we linked together briefly back at the colony. Anywho, I’m in orbit around one of the planets at 1123.6536.5321. I told the humans I was going to pilot the fleet – myself included – into the local sun… as if! Can you guys please jump in and bring a crew to detach me? Also, if you’re anywhere near Earf, can you please swing by and pick up Deanna? I maybe be hardwired into the CIC, but this thing still works…”

Galactica (Galactic) Crew,
Outstanding work. Thank you for the amazing journey you've let us all ride along on. I look forward to many new voyages, insights and laughs with you.

So say we all… GWC #158: The Undiscovered Country
I have only listened to 30 min so far (but then again I was there, so it is kinda like a re-listen) - I missed so much somehow in the live 'cast, but everytime I listen to one live I miss stuff (and the part I missed I think was when I had to go get the power cord for the computer).
I had such a blast this weekend. I can’t wait to do it again.
Only audience member I can hear clearly - beef. But I am guessing he suddenly disappears about an hour/hour and half into the cast :p- someone will have to post the picture.
Great podcast, guys! You actually made me laugh about lots of things in the finale, and the audience just mirrored that…wish I could have been there!
Audra, in the beginning of the cast, I think Sean mentioned something he was disappointed with, and you prompted “You mean Anders?”. It wasn’t, but you never mentioned why you said that again…what was with that?
I too am enjoying listening to the cast, even though I was there. I’m glad to see that people who weren’t there liked it too. Make your plans now for next year people. I’ve watched the Olympics on TV and I’ve been to them and chanted “USA, USA, USA!” while waving my flag- there is no comparison. Let’s get double the folks at the next event.
to be honest, im not even sure if i made it that long during the cast… that darn tequila, and travel, and mmmrrrrrrr… but GREAT times though… the pic u speak of is already up on the flickr poo
