GWC Podcast #155: BSG 4.5 Islanded In A Stream Of Stars

I can relate, Solai. Today I was driving my kid to the library to get some books for her. And, although I don’t normally let my kids watch a DVD in the car on short trips, I let her this time. And in the previews of upcoming videos was a preview for “Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus”.
So I’m sittin’ there driving and all I can think of is Barbie as Admiral Cain. When my kid noticed me start to giggle uncontrollably I had to say “Oh nothing. Nothing at all…”

Now I have an image of Barbie unloading her sidearm into her white winged steed

It’s contagious, ain’t it?

Well my interest in it certainly is understandable.

Best Lines:

Starbuck (referring to 8 hooking up Anders to the goo bath): “I guess you decided to jump start him like a car!”

Tigh (referring to the 5 attempting to stop the cycle):“That was a bust.”

Rambin Anders:
Quote 1: Neural anatomy…(garbled)…flip a coin…increased vascular pressure marks the threat response…free will smothers in a swamp of fear…do not fear the word…you are the harbinger of death Kara Thrace, you will lead them all to their end…END OF LINE, NEW COMMAND, RESUME FUNCTION, RESUME FUNCTION, resume function.

Quote 2: A closed system lacks the ability to renew itself. Knowledge alone is a poor primer. … Structural and electrical subsystem… of the bucket. End of line… Begin reintegration of right hemisphere subcommand routines… patterns… universe… begin reconfiguration… there’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza, there’s a hole in the bucket. Long due to return to patterns and repetitions. All this happened before, and all will happen again.

Notes of interest:
*Did Boomer jumped next to an upside down Jupiter (notice the redspot near the top!)?
*Did the Cylon “colony” look like mouth of hell? and doesn’t Baltars cult symbol look kinda of like it?

that was my thot

Me too, it so looked like Jupiter! Maybe the Colony’s on Europa!

About the discussion of the name for the Poo Barge, another forum I go to calls it Deep S**t Nine.

Yes! I noticed this, too! And almost laughed myself silly! One more of those Earth songs that just seems to transcend interstellar cultures, I guess.

Welcome to the boards, 19MFL68!

I’m glad that was water I spit over everything and not beer.

 FTW! What forum is that?

I don’t usualy like to brag about being correct if for no other reason than it does not happen very often but I have to on this one. If anyone read my posts or was on the post show talkshoe chat they know that in the episode in which Anders had his surgery I predicted that he would literaly become part of galactica. I don’t recall anyone agreeing with me which again is normaly the correct call to make but not this time baby! Score one for the New York state public school system and the U.S. Navy!!lol Can’t wait to see you all in texas for the final episode meet up.

Yeah, me too.

I guess we’ll get more BSG commentary at the inevitable rewatch.

Wasn’t the poo barge referred to as the shit ship in those 8 minute recap bits?

Anyway, glad I wasn’t the only who noticed Ander’s nipple. I was kind of (happily) shocked when they had that close up on it.

someone probably said this already… but the movie with Matt was Courage Under Fire.

Listening to the podcast now, I’m 15 minutes into it, and they be talking about Star Trek.
SQUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…I’ve been waiting for the Trek Arc. Glad that it’s in the offing.
(“offing” is nautical term meaning the area on the horizon where a sailing ship would first come into view.)

Hi kids. Stupid question here, but when someone transfers their flag, are they actually taking something with them - a computer system, a signal, a bomb button box…an actual flag???

In this episode, I was struck by a few things.

First off, the rebel cylons appear to be way more invested in this alliance than the colonials. The sacrifice that the un-named 6 made during the hull breach, just seconds after chewing out that crewman, shows me that when the chips were down, the cylons know they have to make the decisions for the whole of the fleet, colonials included, regardless of sacrifice. This may be because they’re in a position of dependence upon the colonials, but they seem willing to give much more to save the alliance, and lives, than the colonials who seem to keep dithering about whether or not cylons are people.

Secondly, I think Boomer’s pulling a double switch, which would be an interesting development. I think her time with Hera showed her that there’s a third way, rather than the binary choice she thought she had. This could be cool - Boomer could be the only character to put bullets into the leaders of both sides of this conflict.

Lastly, Anders. He’s going to jump the ship - the dying leader - to a place that they can call home as Audra surmised, which may be Earth. He seems to be plugged into that strange siren’s call that all the hybrids are plugged into, and I think he sees the way.

The big wooden steering wheel on sailing ships is called a…

…steering wheel, apparently.
