GWC Podcast #146: Two Hours With Richard Hatch

That article is from 2004 when Dirk posted the rant to some fanzine and then it showed up on his web site in like 2006 and now for our viewing pleasure reposted again.

I liked Dirk as Starbuck in the original series. Face on The A-Team was just Starbuck revisited to me. Now Dirk’s just a grumpy old chauvinistic fool. He’s mentally still living in the 60’s & 70’s.

Funny how RDM didn’t discuss the ending of the show because the podcast was supposed to be released before the airing of the show on Sci-Fi.

Wonder where that missing 3 days came from?

:eek::):D:eek:

The man certainly can talk - it was like from The Big Three - “So, Richard, what’s on your mind?”

Having written that, his discourse on the TV business in general and the sci fi TV business in particular was particularly interesing, I thought. And yes, If Firefly comes back to TV - pay per view for $10 per new episode (and no commercials!)- sign me up.

Get that man an editor, STAT!

I have to admit, for some reason right after Richard left and Sean was sayin he agreed with him on a point, I thought he was going to say he agreed with “the good fundamentals”.

Seems every podcast now I expect one of them to say a Futurama reference or shout PIIIIIE.

.-.

Man, Richard Hatch is right on the money re: the need for a new business model for shows, Sci-Fi or otherwise. The idea of funding shows by subscription to a perhaps small but loyal group of fans came up a while back when “Arrested Development” got canceled. The idea went around that the show could be supported on a DVD or internet subscription only format which would get you access to each weekly episode and a four-episode DVD at the end of each month. Alas, the studios, like he says, are so married to the old way of doing things that they’re too slow to embrace new ideas in presenting their products to a fanbase (look at how long it took to get a site like HULU off the ground!).

wow mr. hatch is one philosophical M’r Frakker… great insights, and another great interview… thanks again GWC CREW

Uh, I think my hed sploded.

uh, NOT like Dee.

sigh. I give up.

…because you three interviewed Kandyse and then we watch the ep and Dee’s a goner. Now we’ve got TWO HOURS:D with Richard Hatch and Zarek plays a critical role in this next episode. What I’m trying to say is…is this the beginning of a disturbing trend? Are ChuSeanDra character killers? And who’s next? DUN DUN DUN

Just wanted to say thanks for the great interview.

I agree with just about everything Richard Hatch said. It excites me to hear from people whom I share the same veiw of the world with.

Wow this guy can talk. This will be a interview I will listen more than once to get everything.

He throws so much ideas around its crazy. After 10 min I was already thinking about how to start this sci-fi concept. He’s right on the money and thought provoking.

It was his podcast for this episode

Thanks for a great interview and making me discover how involved he really is in BSG.

HOW THE FRAK!?!?!

Omg… Damn Chuck…

Man, did you really talk to him for two hours? (I’m only halfway done.) Frakin’ Epic!

You know, the same thought crossed my mind…

And how are you guys managing to interview all these cast and crew members? Frakking sweet!

what a great one!! ya’ll can die now or what??

Interesting that ‘Tom Zarek’ still saw the humanity in Adm. Cain.

I’m listening to the this podcast now. Very interesting.
It is crazy, put in those terms, that Firefly got canned.

Holy Crap!! I guess I knew that Hatch was a SciFi fan.
But I had no IDEA that he was such a Huge SciFi fan.

I met Richard Hatch at a SciFi convention…long long time ago.

Let me say that Richard is a true Renaissance Man and Lifelong GWRer. He is truly passionate about BSG and SCIFI in general. I agree with so much he said. This cast reminds me of when I first started listening to GWC (in the before time, in the long long ago) and I was blown away by the discussions that I have yet to find from any other podcast. Most talk about what they enjoyed from an episode and throw out wild theories. I started listening in the teens and was new to BSG. When I went back and listened to the first casts I was intrigued by the how accurate they were with there theories and how more attention was put towards the themes of the episode than the really cool Viper scenes.

After a few years it is like having a couple of friends in the room with you. I felt just like I did in the beginning listening to the opinions of Mr. Hatch along with the fresh insight he brought to Adm. Caine and the rest of the show we know and love so well. Maybe it is wishful thinking but I would love to hear more in the future from Mr. Hatch. I am now a “Hatchling”.
