GWC Podcast #126

Emily: what is this about Spielberg and Will Smith doing a remake of Oldboy? I mean, Spielberg makes good movies, Will Smith makes good movies, but neither of them make movies that are even remotely similar to Oldboy. I can only imagine that 1) it will be a sadly watered-down version without much of the gore or the twist at the end, or 2) it will give me nightmares, because I just can’t see Will Smith…can’t say it without giving too much away, but, yeah. Does not compute.

All I can say is, if they do make an American Oldboy, they better still score the dental torture scene to Vivaldi.

About the Hayden Christensen movie mentioned in the cast. Awake was in Peoria for about a week or 2, but it didn’t “play in Peoria” since I didn’t go see it. I saw the trailer and knew it was going to be a sucky movie and didn’t bother with it…and I see most Sci-Fi movies that come out.

Oh and the movie that HC was in that Sean mentioned is Life as a House…and he was actually really good in it.

He was really good in that yes. I also liked him in Shattered Glass…

wow deja vu from the SW arc

Loved QoS! I must say, I think Daniel Craig does an awesome job. And he’s SMOKIN’ HOT.

He was good in Shattered Glass too.

I’d be happy to call you up and read the phone book to you if you’d like Cody

Oh, and kotex does suck Audra. You may as well buy plain brand

As you can tell, I’m posting as I listen to the show. The Australian word for a chicken is chook. Both in the delicious way and in the feathered live way.

sweet mop-head kid is Devon Gummersall, a.k.a. Brian Krakow of My So-Called Life

:frowning: another show killed early. I loved this show growning up. I still own the DVD’s.

yeah… that would be creepy…if he was still 13 years old…
no - he’s now 22… and has been in several movies…mostly indie films…
most recently the lead in…Mister Foe. unfraken believable actor. but he was in Flags of Our Fathers. The critics agreed he was the only thing that saved Jumper. you can tell I’m a head-over-heels fan.

Totally agree… H.C was really good in Life as a House… as an angst-filled teen. and he was passable in Shattered Glass, although he seems incapable of modulating his vocal presentation. It appears you’ll always know you are listening to H.C speak…quite the limitation.

My apologies if I end up responding twice…(my first reponse didn’t appear to go through)

Anyway… I’d be creeped out too by my earlier post about Jamie Bell if he was still 13 years old… but he’s not… he’s 22 years old or so. Still jail bait in my book but not of the pathological sort.

So he’s been in a number of indie films and a couple of not so indie films including supporting roles in Flags of Our Fathers and King King. Staring roles most recently in Mister Foe (name for US Release) and the 2004 film Undertow (and others)… and the critics said he was the only thing worth watching in Jumper since Sam Jackson “phoned it in.” Anyway… he’s an unfracken believably good actor.
Coming out in November with Daniel Craig in Defiance. you can see I’m a head-over-heels fan.

The Life of Brian (Krakow). MCSL is some of the best TV ever.

I used to joke that even after Claire Danes bailed, they should have kept the show going. Made Rayanne the main character, and introduced the legendary Tino as an on-screeen presence. And they could continue referring to Angela, just have her offscreen, like they used to with Tino. And change the name to “My So-Called Friend.”

I was young and single when it came out. Now, as the dad of two young girls, I find the dad and parent angles and plots to be very true and poignant.

Speaking of Mr. Smith’s rapping career…I am surprised no one has posted this yet:

There might be hope for Knight Rider yet!

I just wanted to come out of the closet (no, not that one GR!) so Audra does not feel alone. sigh I too have not seen I Legend yet. It is on my Netflix…I just have not gotten to it in the queue yet!

I also wanted to breifly touch on Audra’s reference to women in leadership roles in sci-fi. I’m not sure if there is a “backlash” going on or not. There’s definitely a lack of good female lead roles in the last 8 years. But, I would venture to say without Kate Mulgrew’s Capt. Janeway & Gillian Anderson’s agent Scully, I don’t think we would have the rich diversity of female roles that we are so blessed with on BSG. This is another reason that I am so sad this is coming to an end. Female roles done well are so few & far between, it’s sad to see even one go by the wayside.

That was the greatest 18 minute discussion of Independance Day in a two-hour-plus podcast that I’ve ever heard !

And I got a mention, which made my day, and which I will suffer the XO to listen to, over and over again. And again.

Ouch! I thought we weaved it in and out a bit. I’m sure we’ll have a lot to say about I, Robot.

Oh Chuck - you know that we don’t mind if the topic strays a bit…
