Welcome to the Back to the Future arc! Highlights: We hear from a very lucky listener who saw the movie at a theater in the mall where Einstein made time travel history, note that Mayor Wilson totally failed in cleaning up the town, love the fact that you can “see some serious…” in an ’80s family movie, listen to Sean’s theory about George McFly, wonder how we’d fare traveling 30 years into our pasts, discover that Sean would indeed find his mother hot (assuming his mom was Lea Thompson), wonder exactly how high Nostradamus was when he wrote about the sky burning, hope we’ll see (the sadly sans-Dude) Tron 2 before flying cars arrive, and tell just how-boring-is-Kansas stories.
Ack! Will my download complete and will I be able to sync before I need to put Lil’ Solai down for bed in 2 minutes? Only time will tell!
EDIT: Missed it by 30 seconds.
Man…4 years makes a huge difference. I’m 19. Back in mah day. In the mid-late 1990s when I was in elementary school we KNEW and USED those casette players/recorders with handles. In like 3rd grade we got decent computers. Before then we were rockin matrix displays (Green on black) and playin zoo keeper and shit.
I gotta disagree with you saying I couldn’t hack it in 1955 or 1978 though. 1955 especially. I have base knowledge of things that are set to be devloped in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and it’s modern enough that I don’t particularly NEED to know every little thing about it. Say I’m back in 55. First thing I do? Get a job at Armalite and go see Eugene Stoner. Show him the short-stroke gas piston, suggest a forward assist, chromed barrel, ball ammo etc and bam. M16s don’t suck in Vietnam. We have no problems with them up till today. We probably easily move into a 6.8/6.5 cartridge sooner (It’s comin, don’t kid yourself. It’s comin) and who knows. Maybe we don’t “lose” vietnam and how does the world change from that.
Yes I know the failure of the M16/M16A1 isn’t exactly the biggest problem of the vietnam war but it really can’t hurt public perception of the war during it.
There’s tons of stuff like that where you can make IMPROVEMENTS not necessarily inventing new things.
Also audra knows her hat fashion. Though I gotta disagree with the brim rolled a lot being lame.
The whole Mac or Mc thing. Scots Gaelic and Irish Gaelic are very similar languages. There’s a long story about why, but that’s not important right now. Anyway Mac in both (well I’m a lot more familliar with Irish, far from fluent though) means son. So McFly means son of Fly. So Mc is not exclusily scottish. Although the origin is probably lost with so much migration. Now O’ in Irish refers to grandson of. So O’Hara mean grandson of Hara.
Wow times have changed. Just suspend a person for bringing a gun on campus would be considered getting off easy. Now you could end up in jail. Back to the podcast…
Solai, Solai, Solai…
If you ever get in that situation here’s what you do: Upload Lil’ Solai up to the Forum and we’lll take care of her while finish downloading and syncing. When you’re down you can download her right back into her crib.
There’s a goodly number of GWC parents so you’re covered.
Or you can use that time travel idea so that you can start downloading the podcast a minute earlier.
I’m so exciting about Back to the Future!
Are you offering to change dirty diapers? Can I upload you my trash too?
Someday you’ll be a parent, GR, and you understand. I can’t speak for every parent, but most of us never really mind changing diapers. It’s hard to explain, but from the very beginning parents are conditioned to realize that if your kid is poopin’ and peein’ normally, he/she is healthy. And that makes us happy campers.
Amen! You nailed it. . I have no explanation for it, but that sums it up.
Chuck: 1:04:54 “Where’s my Damn flying car?!”
Here’s your damn flying car
… I can’t believe you guys forgot to mention the comedic genius that is Christopher Lloyd. He executive-produced hit comedies like Frasier.
I think the most memorable moment in the movie is when he actually says, “Back… to the Future!” Yea.
great podcast!!! i have never notice so many details about the movie. even though i also watched the movie like 50 times. you guys are right, BttF arch is so much fun!
Sans-Dude?
Seriously?
You guys need to pay more attention!
Tron 2 (TR2N as the logo gives it) is ALL DUDE!
Lots of information and a teaser that was presented at a con is available Here.… containing footage of the dude.
I’m at work, but I’ll call this in from home. This thing looks sweet.
grweat 'cast and usual…
I really like Seans theory that George knew it was Marty. That is a pretty sweet twist.
I wondered about that. Wouldn’t it be much more likely that he’d grow to suspect that Marty was actually Calvin’s son?
Oh, that’s easy. Emboldened by our easy victory in Vietnam, the United States starts its own reverse Domino Theory, moving our way through the Communist regimes of Asia, until eventually moving on the USSR itself. As Napoleon and Hitler discovered previously, Russia gets cold. Sooner or later, either we’ll figure out that ground assaults are unwinnable or the Soviets will get backed into a corner, and then the nuclear option will be exercised…
Didn’t they already make that movie?
Now there’s a scary thought.
and you understand. I can’t speak for every parent, but most of us never really mind changing diapers. It’s hard to explain, but from the very beginning parents are conditioned to realize that if your kid is poopin’ and peein’ normally, he/she is healthy. And that makes us happy campers.
Yet another evolutionary trick that stops you from eating your own young. Curse you, Darwin!
I’d just like to say, my comment on the appleseed ex machina post (of which there are still only 3 comments) wasn’t meant to be derogatory. I’ve only seen the trailer, which I admit had a few things wrong with it (chief among them the facial animation, followed by the rest of the animation in second). Truth is, something can have bad or cheap animation and still be cool, if the creators can find other ways of breathing life into animation. I mean, just look at Pokemon. It has pretty cheap animation, but they use what they have pretty effectively I think. Some of what they do with their cheap animation budget is actually pretty interesting to me from a technical standpoint.
Of course, I’m not even sure Sean was really grouping my post in with the first commenter. . .there was only 2 comments at the time they made the podcast though.
