Re: the 2-to-1 female-to-male ratio

Although I don’t think there’s an intentional male fantasy going on with the Architect’s plan, I admit, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the movie because it reminded me of Dr. Strangelove. What can I say, Peter Sellers and George C. Scott have forever coloured my reflexive reaction to approaches to repopulating the human race:

So (to pull this back to BSG), since neural patterns are downloaded for Cylons, if a Six had a bit of a heroin addiction (assuming that it exists in BSGdom) then when she died and downloaded her next body would be addicted too? Furthermore, can you get addicted to the radiation shots that Helo, Athena, etc used on Caprica? And wouldn’t the radiation harm the baby? Wow now I’m really rambling =]

Oh and Dr. Strangelove is my dad’s favorite movie of all time.

I think we will need several definitions for this. Every time I get galaxyrangered I end up in the shower scrubbing my skin raw and praying my tears will wipe away the dirt because I never fell completely clean. I can only describe it as a “grangy” feeling.

As much as I respect Audra I have to say her response seemed a bit emotional where as Chuck and Sean were much more logical (Audra is still the coolest!;)). I have to say that I have scene this type of situation coming up a lot in sci-fi. I think that the truth is much more likely to be that each women would be expected to give birth to at least 1 child from each of the males over the course of her life, likely more. On top of that, Neo would probably be encouraged to choose females and males that are young and likely teenagers. We have to remember that this is a argument for the survival of a race, not a discussion about feelings or desires. To look at this situation as if it could be examined in the same moral and ethical standards as today is wrong. We don’t even know if the Zion religion has a equivalent for marriage. Even if loving one person and a nuclear family is the norm we don’t know the specifics of the religion. Also, with this many people you wouldn’t necessarily ever commit incest assuming that all the chosen were not related to each other, which wouldn’t be a difficult thing even if you chose people in current relationships. Incest being sexual relations with a partner related to you by blood and not by marriage or similar partnership. In the end, survival is about the numbers and men are all horn dogs. The architect however is not (imagine Spock to the 10th power).

With the sun blotted from the sky, sources of nutrition have to be pretty limited, particularly knowing from the latter two movies that humanity outside the Matrix is periodically purged. Crops can be maintained without natural light, but someone actually has to be around to do it. The machines certainly aren’t going to bother.

My pet theory is that they eat the same thing they were raised on: liquid Soylent Green. :stuck_out_tongue:

That might be one of the reasons that they don’t generally release older minds. Psychological addiction would certainly carry over to the “real world”, which would suck, because it’s a certainty that tobacco, coca, cannabis, and even tea and coffee are long since extinct. :frowning:

nooooo!!! Do you think that maybe they have found some sort of replacement growing deep down in the earth? Something to keep them going on those ships late at nite when the sentinels are hunting them down? They must have found some sort of stimulant? right?

I think that any addiction that would carry over would be completely mental. I don’t believe that anything in the matrix affects the body in the real world. I would think that there wouldn’t be any biological symptoms of withdrawal. I can imagine that the habits would persist like how addicts say that they are addicted to having something in their hands but they wouldn’t need any gum or a patch. I would say that the bodies are completely maintained by the liquefied corpses and maybe a minimum amount of nutrients added to maintain vital functions but that wouldn’t be enough to add fat or muscle. Also, on the subject of reproduction, since all their anatomy (IYKWIM) is connected into the pod I think it is reasonable to assume the machines store sperm and eggs for each person. If they have relations in the matrix and the program finds the pairing acceptable (i.e. there would be no genetic incompatibilities or that the events or variables in the matrix don’t conflict) a child would be created artificially using the couples genetic material in the real world and inputted into the matrix as there child. I also assume that there is genetic engineering taking place, seeing that the machines are using them for a specific purpose and the fact that the one is able to process the machines signal in the real world (and he is literally part of the source) means at a genetic level he has to be different. There must be something about him that is different that couldn’t have happened by a common fusion of human DNA and was given by the machines to facilitate the function of the one.

I have never understood the obsession of coffee. Too much caffeine is damaging and if one is healthy one wouldn’t need stimulants. Besides, what better stimulant is there besides adrenaline. I have always found the threat of death quite a pick-me-up. Other than being pursued by sentinels I find the fact that I am surrounded by attractive and fit women in torn canvas to be very stimulating. Also, with a construct to plug into and the ability to create girls in (or out of) the red dress, you have a constant never ending supply of stimulation. Best of all, no chafing!

Welcome to the forum Brokencosmos. It’s nice to meet you and your starting off with some great posts. Just watch out for those of us playing in the gutter, I would feel bad if I ruined your nice suit.

Oh my gods! Oh my gods! I got mentioned in the podcast!!! At less than 2 minutes in!! Hip hip hooray for me!! And I was mentioned by name too, not “someoned”! Wow!

…it was in reference to something Audra saw in my sig that actually wasn’t ever in my sig…

But who cares! I got mentioned in the podcast!! Yippee. The new phonebook’s here! The new phonebook’s here!

So there I was at my desk, doing cross-checks and clearing fund transfers when Audra (you rawk!) mentioned me for the first time! Now I’m infamous as the guy who misnomered the [b]accent of Audra’s[b] speech.

Sorry, it was just a stab in the dark. I know nuts about American accents other than what I see on tv.

That certainly made my day! Today I join the legion of BSGeeks who smile while listening to their regular fix of GWC podcasts, and get weird looks from everybody else in the real world.

I totally hear her accent at times, not all the times, but it definetly sounds like a southern accent trying to pop out, but it could just be from being around texans all the time, I know that whenever I’m around people with other accents/languages, my speech patterns slowly change to sound like theirs.

What the frak is a “rawk”??? Please, CylonMATRIX, tell me! Then I can go around saying it, and when people look confused (as they are apt to do here in Idaho where everyone still says “right on”) I can say, duh, it’s what they call a ??? in Singapore.

but wanted to share this anyway

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/02/tv.what.the.frak.ap/index.html

frak, frakity, frak, frak, frak

corr blimey… rawk is how some americans sound like when they say “rock”.

I’m not going bring up texan accents again (a million apologies Audra) being imfamous once is enough ~_~ .

P.S. If you guys are into the Terminator, you should really check out Skynext podcast. (controlling the urge to bring up texan accent …again)

Embrace the Paradox

… just a thought; when i was on holiday in LA (I stayed at the OC - home of skate boards and ska bands, though i didn’t see any while i was there), i noticed the USA is pretty much coffee country. And you get weird looks when you ask for tea. But luckily the few places that do serve tea have the regular indian Lipton black tea leaves. ~_~

I haven’t picked up on that, but her Upstate NY accent definitely comes out from time to time. (Listen when she says, “I know!”)

Ah, I’ve got it figured out now (or rather FT told me). Audra was mixing up me with Frakintalos. Well, I consider that an honor.

They are naming names. Next they will get them all correct.
Hay they are reading the threads. There are I am told 1000 of us to mix up so at least they are naming more than the “someone”.

Besides, he barely posts at all.

Just shooting out a preemptive ‘Don’t worry about it’ to Audra. To be confused with Thot is a compliment.
