GWC Podcast #112

How about setting up a Pay Pal account so that we can all chip in to Audra getting the tatoo?

If she’d really get it then, I’d be in for that.

I just started watch the Animatrix. What order should you watch them in. I just watched the Second Renaissance. Very good art but also very depressing. Well I guess that can not be avoided with the story line. I found this list. Is it complete?

The Second Renaissance, Part I
The Second Renaissance, Part II
Program
Beyond
Kid’s Story
World Record
Matriculated
A Detective Story
Final Flight of the Osiris

He does have his own red light, after all.

Are you talking about the droid itself or a tattoo thereof?

hmm, I wonder where would be a good place for an R2D2 tattoo?

Count me in too. I’m all for supporting impulsive decisions.

Looks complete. Have you watched the movies? At least the first? If not, I’d recommend watching at least the first movie before any of the Animatrix. The Second Renaissance is a prequel of events before Matrix I. It gives a good overview but spoils any revelations from the movie itself. That’s your call, depending on how you feel about spoilers. The others occur somewhere between the events of the second and third movies. The individual order of the Animatrix “episodes” themselves is immaterial, with the obvious exceptions of TSR parts I and II. HTH.

DawnAZ’s call was awesome. A well-deserved Howler, indeed!

I have to admit that I’m not a huge Matrix fan (the first one was fine, but the 2nd and 3rd were underwhelming to say the least), so I’m looking forward to seeing it through GWC’s eyes…

Have to LOL. I did a combo beg/threaten my boys to do the intro call with me. They were mortified to do it and then when they heard themselves , they thought it was great. I got some cool points for the Howler, but I’m sure I’ll some embarrassing mom thing later today that will erase them.

Am up for Matrix rewatch, I think watching in order, like we did with SW, helps to keep you in the story. The kids and I did a LOTR rewatch in one day and it was incredible. I was so lost in the characters and story, it felt like I was living in a real fantasy there for 12 hours. Talk about a real vacation from life!

A little thing on Yoda being the one who taught Obi-Wan. From Empire:

“You will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me”

Of course in Episode II I believe we see Yoda teaching the class of Younglings. So it’s not unreasonble that Yoda instructed Obi-Wan when he was a youngling. So he was telling the truth even though Qui Gon was his master, from a certain point of view.

I watched the first movie and really liked it. The other two just plain confused me. The Animatrix was good for most of the sections.

Leah, have you found them online? I looked last night and only found a bunch of broken links.

They are all on line at youtube. I think some are a bit dark but so is the movie.

Sean is da man. Leah Thompson is definitely hotter than Carrie Fisher.

This brings up a theory that I have had for a while. While some may take offence to the idea of juging others, please bare with me. Besides we all do it and in the end all GWCers score a 10 in personality.

Besides the fact that everyone has different tastes I think there has to be two different scales. Taking the old 1 - 10 scale for rating appearance is a bit to simple. There should be two scales, one I like to call exotic and another cute. Most actresses and models would fall into the exotic category (general accepted as beautiful) and cute would be the people you are attracted to. Sometimes there are people that you are attracted to more intensely than others even if you would give them both the same number on a 1 - 10 scale, these fall into cute. I think another way of looking at it is exotic=intimidating and cute=comfortable. Here is a BSG example:
Cute
Mary McDonnell
Katee Sackhoff
Kandyse McClure
Nicki Clyne
Exotic
Lucy Lawless
Kate Vernon
Tricia Helfer
Grace Park
Rekha Sharma

I would say that it gets unfair to mix the two together. Say if you were rating Grace Park and Nicki Clyne you would give one a score and the results of that may affect the next by saying, "If I gave Grace Park a 8 (no pun intended) then I may alter the score I give Nicki to compensate when alone it may be different.

I hope I am making sense and maybe it is something guys do more but I would love to hear what the ladies think and what there take is on the whole art of scoring.

Results IMO
Leah Thompson = Cute 7
Carie Fisher = Cute 6
(Early 80’s)

I think most women don’t like to be referred to as cute. Besides sounding like a young cuddly kitten or animal, it’s like a kissing cousin to “great personality”. But in terms of your definitions, I guess it boils down to if you’re only looking at physical attributes (NOT an invite for visuals!). Cute/exotic work. For myself, I’d fall into your cute category, but I like Girl Next Door better. It implies a down to earth attitude that I think is flattering and implies a functioning brain is present. We don’t want to get into that high maintenance nonsense again!

I think the scoring of anyone’s looks is wrong. Saying I think one person is more my kind of look I understand. My husband must thought I was hot or he would have not asked me on that first date. On the other hand not everyone would agree.

No, we don’t want to get into that high maintenance nonsense again. You’re just fine.

Please don’t send me a howler.

DawnAZ, are you a Jedi? :stuck_out_tongue:

No, we don’t want to get into that high maintenance nonsense again.

Thanks for your reply’s Dawn and Leah. I defiantly wasn’t trying to make a excuse to objectify anyone. It is just interesting to see how each of us view the world. I guess the difference is chemistry. It would also be interesting to see if nostalgia played a part in the whole Leah vs Carrie issue.

Isn’t it ironic how much maintenance it takes to keep from talking about “high maintenance”?

Eh. I don’t really like your lists Mssr. Crazy Eyes. If it was cute and then hot I might agree with you moved lady sackhoff to the second list but the term label exotic, imo, has to involve acts/hobbies/etc as well as looks. I mean if it was the 1860s I’d agree with it just solely on looks but at this point exotic is the fighter pilot chick not just the insert ethnic variety here chick

This is great because we all have different tastes. I think some of the difficulty is that how do you put into words what attracts you to a person. Is it physical, mental, personality, behavior, likes or dislikes and how do you compare someone you have never meet?
Another thing with the Leah vs Carrie is that Chuck and Sean are basing there decision on 25 year old memories and how does that figure into it. Would they say Natalie Portman is hotter when placing them at the same age? I am just thinking of this as a interesting discussion about how we all think differently. We could all tell that each of them was surprised with the others answer and they know each other pretty well.
