GWC International Movie Fest

GWC members from around the world would gather together with with the other forum members in their country and vote for the movie which best represents their country. Preferably in the SF, Fantasy or Horror genre. Either because it was produced by their country, filmed in their country or the story takes place there. After voting the winners would be presented to Chuck & Company to be viewed and then latter discussed on the podcast, hopefully english dubbed versions would be available.

Once they have seen all of the non american films, if desired it could be extended to include states or regions with the US. Each chapter could vote on a film which they feel showcases their state the best. Again because it was filmed there, or the story showcases the state in some way, or both!

Examples for my state (off the top of my head)-

Tremors (Paradise AZ) Gargoyles (Superstition Mts AZ) Eight Legged Freaks (They blew up the mall I used to work in, in Glendale AZ) The Wraith (Tuscon AZ) Transformers 2/ You cant buy Love (The airplane Graveyard Tuscon AZ) Star Wars (Tantooine= Yuma desert) The Postman (Tuscon) Broken Arrow, Three Kings, The Kingdom, Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure(Phoenix, Metro Center Mall, Mesa, Scottsdale), Waynes World (Mesa), A Boy and his Dog, Universal Soldier (Prescott, Sedona), Desperation (Bisbee), War of the Worlds 1953 (Phoenix, Florence), Planet of the Apes (Page), Back to the Future (Scottsdale), Starman (Sedona, Flagstaff, Meteor Crater) Kingdom of the Spiders (Sedona), The Nutty Proffessor (ASU), Stargate (Yuma) Highway to Hell and so on…

There are so many!

What do you think?

You missed the best one! Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Yuma, AZ)

i always thought Close Encounters of the Third Kind is filmed in Arizona, i looked it up and it isn’t… but hey, that’s a pretty classic scifi movie as well.

Man, Vancouver is going to clean up.

Vasquez Rocks rocks!

So, I could say any movie with African slaves (The South)?

Ok, I’m not helping.

Wizard of Oz (Kansas)?

Do the movies have to match where they were set in or the location they were actually shot or either/or?

I assumed the ‘Tatooine= Yuma desert’ comment covered that.

Indeed, many a movie has been filmed up there in the beautiful country of Canada to save money. Resident Evil 2 for example.

Wow. I’m really blind.

Well there is alot of stuff shoved together in that one paragarph, I suppose it would be easy to miss.
