GWC in the Pitt(sburgh) November 30th-December 3rd

We really don’t have anything planned thus far. We’re looking at staying at http://www.countryinns.com/washington-hotel-pa-15301/pawashin they’re a really nice chain and we enjoyed staying at one during the Rochester meetup over the summer. Probably spend a day in Pittsburgh proper, find other stuff to do and generally just hangout with all our GWC peeps.

This is less than 3 hours away from me. I’ll be in for sure. I’ve been to Pittsburgh a ton of times, and I love that city. I would probably have to leave on the night of the 2nd though.

It’s bad timing, so I’ll be there, but I’ll be late.

Very nearby hotel:

Casino at the meadows

Outlet shops by the meadows (mostly ladies’ stuff)

Pittsburgh proper:

Mr. Rogers exhibit at kids’ museum

Carnegie Museum of Art has a ton of world-class stuff.

There’s an area called Mount Washington, up on a hill, across the river from the city, with a great view of the city. There’s an incline (hill trane) that’ll take you to the bottom, where there’s a small mall with some restaurants and bars.

Farther out:

Meadowcroft village. Set up as a primitive encampment. Blacksmithing and other old timey things. Whole family fun.

Fallingwater. The iconic Frank Lloyd Wright house is a drive, but…

This ol’ castle is also a haul, but… Nemacolin Castle.

This restaurant is a 20/25 minute drive, but it’s worth it. Big sandwiches on thick Italian bread, topped with (creamy white) coleslaw and think crinkle fries.

Mount Washington RULES. I’ve been up there a bunch of times, and the inclines are great too (somewhat slow, but still fun). At the bottom of the Monongahela Incline is Station Square. And it’s AWESOME too!

Ferris is coming, Ferris is coming!
