GWC Direct-To-Archive #5

Here’s our GWC Book Club TalkCast on Isaac Asimov’s Foundation in its entirety. (Originally recorded live December 6, 2008). The Book Club TalkCast is now a monthly event. If you’d like to participate, check out the book club discussion and book selection thread on the forum, and look for another TalkCast next month discussing The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.

In regard to the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, the emperor I totally blanked on was Constantine. He was instrumental in the eventual Fall of the Roman Empire. He built the new eastern capital of Constantinople and legalized the Christian religion.

In ‘Foundation’, Hari Seldon seeing the impending fall of the Galactic empire sets up the Foundation on Terminus and eventually a new religion forms in his name.

Sorry I missed out, but it’s great to hear the discussion after the fact.

Maybe I’ll participate via Speakerphone while I help put up and decorate the X-Mas tree on Saturday.

This was really a lot of fun as everyone had a lot of valuable ideas about the book to contribute. Plus – what a great bunch of guys. I think we all had a great time.

With that in mind, I’m totally going to make the GWC Book Club TalkCast a monthly event. I’ll line one up sometime near the beginning of each month so we can all chow down on the goodness of the month’s read.

Another thing that became clear during the TalkCast: Foundation has a lot of relevance with what’s going on in this politico-economic climate. Great stuff.

Yeah, that was great. I hope more people show up next time (with Hitchhiker’s Guide, you have no reason not to).
