GWC 1st Annual Nat'l Meetup: March 20-22, 2009 (Frisco, TX)

Awesome, let me know. Like I said I may still do it and just drive up myself - 5 hours is really not much time - I do that 1 way for a weekend visit here at home anyway. And looking at the layover times in Houston - they are 3-12 hours it makes just as much sense to fly to Houston.

So I am going to keep an eye on the prices and if they start to go up then I will make the decision - 1 way or round trip to Houston and deal with it from there.

I will post an update as soon as I hear something. I hate long layovers!

Chuck about how many people do we have going so far?

Is everyone planning to arrive on Fri. and leave Sun. or is there a reason to be there the full day Fri. and Sun.?

ill arrive sometime friday 11am ish, and my flight leaves sunday @ 4ish…

I’m planning to arrive Friday and leave on the earlier side of Sunday. That’s the last day of Spring Break and I’ll have to work on Monday. Keep in mind it will be spring break (beginning or ending) everywhere, so allow for that at the airport. March is bad in the Southwest because of Spring training baseball, so things get very congested as people try and come into AZ, that I think Vegas and Dallas get affected.

I think that’s “the plan”. Yeah, we have one.

I better book an off-planet flight in that case.

I seem to remember what happened the last time you had a “plan”.

Isn’t “Talos” Greek for Twelve?

Re: Scheduling

The schedule is still forming here, but we know for sure that we’re going to be doing a watch event of some sort on Friday. If all goes well, it’ll be the series finale. If not, we’ll watch something else. We can’t place the exact time on the schedule yet because if possible we’re going to line it up with the SciFi showing. But that said, I’d imagine you won’t want to arrive late in the evening on Friday.

In a perfect world, you’d want to arrive, say, mid-afternoon on Friday so you can check in, get settled, and be ready to head to the watch event. Depending on the details, we’re also considering a “happy-hour/hang out” prior to the watch event, so there’s no harm in arriving early.

We’re not going to plan any overall events after lunch on Sunday, so I’d say planning to leave anytime thereafter (or even earlier Sunday morning if you don’t mind missing lunch w/us) is fine.

Re: Hotel

We’re finalizing our decision this upcoming week, so get ready to book as soon as we announce.

OK, since we’re getting close to room booking time, should we start talking about who is rooming with whom? I don’t know if everyone is paired-off/quaded-off yet, but if anyone is looking for roommates, I suppose now would be a good time to hash that out, in prep for the hotel decision being made.

Here’s the list of roomies I currently have. I’ll edit as you guys reply below:

Keara / DawnAz (open to up to 2 more roomies)

It’s probably prudent to mention that only females need apply.

Would you all mind if I stayed with you?

I am close to booking my flight (waiting on the prices to come down just a tiny bit more, or just biting the bullet and flying to Houston and figuring it out from there)

So do we have a spreadsheet of who all is attending and who is staying with who?

I can volunteer to help coordinate that. I have done it several times for the bunnies when we went to Dragon*Con.

All I would need is flight times, cell numbers, e-mail addresses and who is staying with who (or at least as much as you know now). Also if you will have a car or not - just so we make sure we have room for most.

Then once I have all the information I will send it to those coming (as long as everyone is OK with everyone knowing there cell #'s) or at least those picking people up and the like.

Let me know if everyone thinks this is a good idea.

We’re happy to have you with us! I think the spreadsheet idea is great. Will PM you my info later.

Yeah, what DawnAZ said on all of it. Happy to have you with us and great idea on the spreadsheet!

Dawn, I was working on an email to you earlier and managed to delete the whole frakkin’ thing and was so frustrated I couldn’t go back and re-do it at the time. I promise to answer your email tomorrow. banging head on desk

OK, I can easily volunteer to do the coordination of flight times and the like.

So if you are going please PM me (or e-mail me if you are more comfortable with that - if you don’t have it ask) with flight times, cell #'s, e-mail addresses (if you want a copy of the list and don’t mind everyone getting a copy), roomies if you have them, or need them and if you will be renting a car.

For those of you attending but driving in you can also send me approx arrival time and cell numbers, and roommate information and I will add it to the list.

I will compile the data and send it to everyone. I have done this for several Bunnie meet-ups including both trips to Dragon*Con and London, so I am pretty good at it (and part of my RL job is scheduling trucks, which is kinda the same concept).

I really want to come, but can’t afford to fly right now. Is there anyone in the general Pensacola vicinity (or somewhere on the way) that would like to ride share? I could probably go then.

As I live about half an hour south of Frisco, I’ll definitely be there! Just popped back into the forum after a looooong absence, and I can’t tell you how geekily excited I was to find this. Woo-hoo!

No plane bucks for me either. Anyone want to drive me from Melbourne?

That would definitely be an interesting road trip! lol
