GWC 1st Annual Nat'l Meetup: March 20-22, 2009 (Frisco, TX)

Maybe if I start buggin’ them about it now they will get annoyed with me and decide not to come up

There’s a million ways to do it! After all, they’re family!

All I have to say them is: this time you can’t bring the dog.

Got my room booked… excited to see all of you in March… WOOT!

I booked my room this evening. I’ll be checking in on the 19th.

Hey I am really thinking about trying to go…am not sure if I can get away and I don’t have all the free money I used to now but it sounds like it will be a blast.

Does anyone know what airport I would need to book my flight to? I don’t think this matters but I would be flying out of Chicago-O’Hare. (I hate Midway Airport!!! Am flying out of there Friday afternoon for work and I am not happy!!!)

Thanks.

Do we have a list somewhere of who has RSVPed with a yes? How many of us will there be? I’m curious.

Cloest airport would be Dallas/Fort Worth.

Just ordered my tickets!

I’ll be arriving at DFW around noon on Friday

woot woot… look @ all these tickets that are being bought… O boi O boi

do u mean the soscial goup?? there is a link to it on page 8 of this topic… hope that helps

ok kewl… thanks Aset.

I would also love to know.

That list could give you an idea of how many people are coming, but it appears through this thread that not all people who are going are aware of it. So, it can be concluded that it is not a 100% inclusive list of those who have RSVP’d. Only Chuck would know that, I think.

As of right now we have 22 people participating in the entire event and 29 RSVP’d for the Friday night event.

At T-7 weeks, a few updates for everyone:

Attire

As everyone starts planning what to pack we’ve had a few questions as to event attire. I’ve updated the information on the event pages but wanted to put that information here as well in case you didn’t notice the edits:

Friday night’s event is casual. Think going out to the movies. A few people have asked if costumes are appropriate, and that’s a total yes. If you want to show up Friday as a colonial officer, deckhand, etc. go for it. It’s probably best, however, to avoid inert weapons as they look pretty real and might scare the hell out of the hotel staff.

Saturday night’s dining out is casual as well, though if you’d like to dress up you can. Bottom line: you can show up in jeans and a t-shirt or a dress/suit and you’ll feel right at home. If you don’t want to pack dress clothes, don’t. If you enjoy dressing up, go for it. It’ll be fun. (One thot: I’d say costumes are inappropriate for this event.)

Honestly the entire event will be casual, so don’t sweat it. Just be reasonable and have a good time. Obviously if any exceptions come up as we plan events for the remainder of the meetup you’ll be the first to know.

RSVPs

We currently have 22 people attending the entire event and 29 RSVP’d for the Friday night only event, which means we’re approaching the half-full point. I wouldn’t worry too much – I’m still not convinced we’re going to fill up completely – but if you would like to come, it’s probably better to make your plans earlier instead of later if possible. In the (IMHO) extremely unlikely event we have more RSVPs than space, we’ll give priority to people staying in the hotel and people attending the entire event.

Travel Arrangements

I’ve received some PMs regarding travel arrangements (i.e. transportation to and from events, etc.). I’d like to note that we (meaning me, Audra, and Sean) are not actively providing transportation between events. We’re going to totally have our hands full keeping everything running smoothly (and hanging out/geeking out with you).

Raemani, however, has graciously offered to help organize ride-sharing and such among attendees who have cars (or are local), etc. So if you’re planning on snagging rides to/from the airport or to/from events, you’ll definitely want to contact her as soon as possible so she can add you to her lists and hopefully help you find transportation.

As always, we recommend you make your arrangements (either confirming a shared ride with Raemani or renting a car yourself) prior to your arrival.

WTF Are We Going To Do All Weekend?

We have a lot of plans in the works, but are holding off on finalizing them until we have a better idea of the total attendance. I can say this, though: We’re going to maximize the time everyone has to hang out/geek out together. I’d definitely catch up on your sleep as it’s looking like everyone’s going to take full advantage of the time we have together. More on this in a few weeks.

We’re obviously looking forward to it. Holy crap this is exciting!

I can make the attire rule very simple:
[ul]
[li]No sleeves[/li][li]No pants[/li][/ul]Viva la revolution!

Ooooofffff course

Viva la revolution

How much time is the hotel staff going to be spending in the area in which we are viewing the show? I only ask because a BSG Marine without weapons looks pretty lame. Guess I could ditch the long gun but you have to have the holster to make it look halfway decent. Wasn’t planning on running around the hotel in full costume anyway.

Then again, any appearance of a marine costume might scare the unwashed masses. Oh, well, it was a good idea.
