December 28th. Nine in the Pee Emm. Eee Ess Tee.
Save the date.
Because that’s when Mythbusters is going to air the long awaited GORN CANNON episode.
See if, indeed, that’s why he’s the Captain, dammit.

A cannon that fires Gorn? How peculiar!
Looking forward to this episode.

SQUEE !

Must see TV!
My favorite part of the original episode:
Thought, it looks a little different. Maybe the colors are off.
Didn’t the Mythbusters already (perhaps through hte property of transubstantiation) do this like back in Season 1? They made a cannon out of a log, and the results from that would seem to… apply. Of course, I think the difficulty in grinding the sulphur & saltpeter down to fine enough would pose a challenge as well.
LOL. When a saw that thread name “Gorn Cannon” I thot it meat “Gorn Canon”, and thot to myself “Oh, this must be thread debating which Gorn material is considered canonical material in the Star Trek universe. I have a lot to weigh in on that.”
I’d forgotten all about the Mythbusters thing. So, let me also say “SQUEE!”
Not necessarily. Bamboo is stronger than wood, and it’s also just something that looks like bamboo on an alien, possessing unknown physical properties. Besides which, they proved that log cannons are perfectly serviceable — at least until they catastrophically fail at inopportune times.

And, judging from the source materials, Kirk didn’t even really mix the ingredients all that well, not to mention that he didn’t pack everything in tightly enough to function like an actual cannon.
Really? I’d like to hear your take on that. It sounds like a discussion deserving its own thread.
There’s reams of non-canonical Gorn material in the various RPGs, most specifically Starfleet Battles. Also, while I squee whenever I think of the 4th season alternate history Enterprise episode, I found their Gorn to be… a little too Jurassic Park. Fast, nimble, CGIish.
I like my Gorn the way I like my women: Tall, clumsy, and hissing like a punctured tire.
Yeah, I wasn’t a fan.

And with a zipper down the front?
I just searched for this and found out this was on next week. Glad to see there is Frak party for this. I’m soo stoked for this.
