I know. There was a ten-minute pause in the frak party.

It’s such a complex relationship, which of course we see after the fact was his last and possibly most important.

He was a complex person. It’s so sad to see someone so talented, brilliant, and charismatic deteriorate. It must be even worse to be the person it’s happening to.

I don’t think I’d ever seen McKellen in anything before watching this, and he just blows you away. Every gesture, every inflection, every facial expression is so nuanced and full of meaning. Truly a master of the craft.

And, despite what he’s better known for since the Mummy movies, Fraser was amazing as well. The only other thing I’ve ever seen him in beside this where you really see his acting chops was The Passion of Darkly Noon, a very obscure, extremely arty film. Now there’s a weird one…

First thing I saw Fraser in was ‘Encino Man’…yeah ok…McKellen I saw in ‘Six Degrees of Separation’.

That’s so true. The saddest part of my job is seeing people who know that there’s something “wrong” with them. Most of the people I’ve worked with are blissfully unaware of their own disabilities, having had them since birth or early childhood. People with brain injuries or dementia, though, their frustration is palpable. There’s something that really hits home, too: if it happened to them, it could happen to any of us. :frowning:

We are so fragile. Frak! Cavil was right. I want a Cylon centurion body.

Seriously. Damn these gelatinous orbs!

Thanks so much for bringing this up. I really love this movie but haven’t seen it for a while. In fact, I own it on VHS, so I had to “other means” it for tonight, since I haven’t had a working VCR in probably five years or more.

VHS? VCR? Did you have to crank those like a phonograph? Wow, you’re old. I bet you used to watch wall paintings as a child.

“Wall paintingS”???

When I was a kid, we only had one wall painting.

And we were thankful!

Was it the one of the hunters chasing the Mammoth? That one never gets old!

need sleep. getting giddy

Sorry that I missed this. I saw it in a local art house when it came out and was really impressed. I always point to this film to support my Frasier-does-the-other-films-because-of-the-dumptruck-full-of-cash argument.

A movie with a name like that should be like Clash of the Titans. Here’s an out-of-context quote from the Simpsons’ Nelson Muntz, who was actually talking about Naked Luch at the time: “I can think of at least two things wrong with that title.”
