We got to see some short images of the FTL in its spun state. Which I think was completely in the “indecipherable machine” category as it should be to avoid the techno-babble hole.
Observations,
-This seems to be the largest open space in the Galactica we’ve seen.
-Spun really means Spun, from the looks of it all the components 10+ meters in diameter and moving with considerable speed.
Question,
Whats on the bulkhead that’s so interesting?
I even slowed it down and I can’t make sense of that painting.
It was a tear in the bulkhead, just like the one we saw in the You Will Know The Truth clip with Adama in the bathroom.
I was happy to finally see the engine room again.
We saw it briefly in the miniseries as some machine surrounded by smoke.
But this time it was much better.
Very interesting.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking. They’re making a big deal out of it for some reason. It’s been in one scene now, and also in one preview scene from the clues on scifi.com like you said. I guess we’ll have to wait to see what they’re going to do about. But it doesn’t bode well for the ship does it?
Yeah, or maybe what Chief was metaphor as in the ship’s tearing itself apart (just like the crew and fleet).
Galatica is an old ship and seen been through a lot. After seeing those tears/claw marks. My gut feeling is she won’t make it in the end…either that or there’s a Wompa living in the engine, room somewhere.
It will definitely hurt… but I also think it’s inevitable… I think that Adama (and Roslin) will go down with the ship in some fashion, once they’ve settled (what will be) Earth.
I hate to think it, but I think the both of you are right. I think the old girl’s finally starting to show the wear and tear of three+ years of continual ops without refit. There’s a reason warships in the navy get an overhaul after every deployment. Sure, space doesn’t offer the same battering that the ocean does … then again, the Galactica’s taken HOW MANY nuke hits at this point? Not to mention the enormous pounding at New Craprica?
If my (and your) prediction is right, we’ll lose the Big G either in the last episode, or the one right before it. And we’ll lose her in a sad way. It will depress me to no end, but she’s not going to go out like the Pegasus did. Instead, I think she’ll get the crew and the fleet to a home, and then pass on.
Oh … and I loved the idea that the ship is tearing itself apart just as its crew is.
One last bit … the FTL drive was seriously cool. I did expect to hear a Tardis sound effect at one point, tho.
I think it would be interesting to see the Galactica having hull integrity problems as a result of not beng able to adapt to the Cylon FTL conversions, not by deliberate sabotage but merely by technical problems.
Destroying the ship could be part of a crucial closure to the series
This issue which has been discovered by Tyrol (Mr. Scott) needs to be addressed immediately and can’t wait till later in the series…This may ground the fleet to a complete halt.
It would be interesting to see the basestar as the last line of Fleet defense…
