It’s good. I liked it actually, thought it was funny. Wasn’t trying to single you out, just a tip-o-the-hat
And rightfully so homie.

Thanks man. Appreciate the hat tippage.
I hope you enjoy my submission to this weeks scenario. A little longer, though I tried to keep it on point while just fleshing out the details a bit more.
I have an idea I’ve been tossing about for the next scenario, but I’m not sure I have the writing chops to pull it off, and my schedule next week looks pretty harsh as well.
I have to admit that scheduling issues was kind of problem for me this week.
To be perfectly honest I had to write this week entry in the bus and quickly type it at the last minute.
On top of that I lost my voice so no audio version this week :(.
If we had weeks it would be another kind of game but the time contraint is an important part of the challenge and put us in a situation where we need to go with the first uncensored idea.
Doing the Clockwork Orange dialog was fun but very challenging. I had to do a lot of research of course to learn the slang, but trying to pepper it in without getting carried away was a delicate balance. I hope I did not get carried away with it and turn off readers.
Personal request from me: if your characters are obscure please provide a little character study. I find it hard to read solutions where I am unfamiliar with all attributes of the characters
seconded!
I trust that Harry and Draco are familiar but Phédre and Melisande may well not be. They are from Jacqueline Carey’s first trilogy of Kushiel books, which are fantasy set in an alternate Europe in which Christianity never rose to dominance, but instead a religion founded by a rebel angel imbued the citizens of alter-France (Terre d’Ange, yes, Land of the Angels, gag, I know) with a culture of free love.
Phédre is an orphan whose parents sell her into servitude to one of the great arts-prostitution houses. She has a weird red spot marring the whites of one of her eyes, which disqualifies her for service as a courtesan. Eventually she learns that this mark is called Kushiel’s Dart and it signifies that she is an anguisette, basically someone seriously into submission and pain. She’s god-touched (Kushiel is the god of mercy) and her Dart is extremely rare. She rises to fame and power as the foremost courtesan of the land and the Queen’s trickster and diplomat. Phédre’s defining trait is her determination and perseverance in the face of extreme adversity.
Melisande is her nemesis. She is the daughter of House Shahrizai, one of the ruling families of Terre d’Ange. She hires Phédre as a young woman and they have amazingly hot dirty sex together and with Melisande’s lover, Prince Baudoin. M tricks B into trying to overthrow his uncle the King. B is killed for treason. P discovers M’s role in the affair and M sells P into slavery among a people who represent the Germanic tribes. They continue to have hot, hot sexy times as the series progresses. Melisande’s core character features are her love of the game of thrones (she may actually use the phrase at some point), the potency of her cruelty mixed with her beauty and her ability to successfully lay deep and cunning plans.
If fantasy with an alternate history-lite twist and lots of dirty sex sounds good to you, read the books.

Baseball? BASEBALL! No offense to anyone who likes baseball, but I can’t stand it. I was thrown for a total loop when that showed up. I’ve been humming and hawing, trying to attack this weeks challenge. I was having the worst time trying to come up with something. Fortunately I’ve overcome the writer’s block and I’ve got some ideas on the go. Hopefully I can finish it up between tonight and tomorrow morning before work.
I was originally going to try a different writing style again, but after spending two nights trying to figure out what to write, I’m going to stick to a generic style and just try to finish up. Maybe next week I’ll be able to change it up a bit.
It couldn’t have been hockey could it? I woulda had this thing hammered out Monday night if it were hockey. Though I think more people would have suffered from having to deal with that sport.
wrong thread
I really need to do a team intro… I think all of my characters are fairly obscure. Later, though, because I’m exhausted and I still have nearly an hour drive home coming up. Ugh.
Megan and Illyana are from Marvel’s X-men comics. Megan’s a fairly new character who I love because she’s adorable and has gone through some pretty good character growth (from cutesy background kid to genuinely questioning what it is to be a hero.) Illyana is Colossus’ little sister, and while she is more properly a hero, in her whole Darkchild phase she was brought back from the dead without a soul and ripped out part of Megan’s. I’ve read very little of her pre-death stuff, but I really like her in the recent New Mutants arcs where she’s dealing with being back on a team and the goatleggy demon look is pretty awesome.
Frau Totenkinder and Baba Yaga are from the Fables comics. Frau Totenkinder is “the Black Forest Witch,” aka just about every nameless evil witch in a fairy tale ever, but now she’s nominally a good guy (if a very roundabout and still scheming one.) Baba Yaga in the comics appeared as a spy to the Fable community in New York, disguised as Red Riding Hood, and was defeated in a magical battle by Frau Totenkinder that cost her an eye–and since then, she’s been kept in a hidden basement, drained of her magic, and questioned for information for years.
Not exactly the basis for a good partnership in either case, I would think!
(Also, not a baseball fan either, but I watched “A League of Their Own” enough growing up that I think I fudged it okay. Probably not.)
No whining from me, I just consult the ‘Book of Knowledge’ (Google) and research any characters I am not familiar with; and see it as an opportunity to learn something new. Always a good thing…
Decided to play around a bit with the templates I made for Chloe and Lionel. Of course, these characters aren’t league legal, so they’re marked appropriately.
Did have any time this week. Been busy trying to get a website off the ground this week and I leave tomorrow t Calgary for the National Yoyo Contest.
Why do the rebels celebrate every time they kill a Death Star? Sure the Death Star can destroy a planet in one shot, but the rest of the Empire’s fleet can still land enough hardware to walk shoulder to shoulder across an entire planet. If the Empire can build two Death Stars inside 10 years, how many AT-ATs do you think they got ready to go? But, according to the movies, killing the Death Star means you win the war, so I went for the quick joke on that.
You know, in retrospect, I should have used Sam Carter and Rodney McKay as my second pair instead of Chloe and Lionel. LuthorCorp didn’t start getting really cool/useful tech until Lex was CEO.
Holy crap. I had been on a trip for the long weekend, and barely had time to write a story, so I figured I’d just go for the cheapest, quickest fix I could think of since 1, I had no time to write, 2, I had no idea how my team were going to desroy an entire galactic army, and 3, destroying a death star, which I did in challenge 3, was how the rebels won in the movies.
So I was an episode behind in listening until this week when, to my surprise, I made the finals for the 'cast. HOLY COW! I never thought much of my writing, since I do so little of it generally, and I feel a little dirty winning with such a cheap trick, but I’ll take it!
Thanks to Sean and the GWC team for putting together the FSL series, and the GWC community for all the great writing. It’s very inspiring to see all the great stories, and all the different ways people are using the characters. You can really see the passion that everyone has for these characters.
