Freespace 2

I had this game and thought it was awesome, but lost it when my harddrive crashed a few weeks ago. i know it’s available as a free download legally, but all the places i could find linked to this one site whose download link was broken! does anyone have a link to a working download saved? or know where i can find it? im looking for a mac version, btw.

thanks!

Just thought I’d bump this up, didnt get a response yet. thanks

According to the Freespace Wiki the best place to get Freespace 2 is at ‘Good Old Games’, they range from 5.99 to 9.99 and are DRM free and legal. Sounds good to me, and if you have a disk you never have to worry about losing the game ever again because of a bad drive or having to reinstall a OS.

While you can techinically still legally get it free, the best place to get it is GOG, because GOG is awesome.

$6, http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2

EDIT: Whoops. Mac version. Ouch, that’s tough.

Isn’t there a BSG mod for Freespace 2?

Beyond the Red Line.

This is the game Sean, Steve and I used to power the Viper simulator we built for Popular Science. And yes, like the Ark of the Covenant, it’s been sitting collectig dust in a storage unit that costs me cash each month. I think I’ll drag it to this year’s national meetup before it goes to the scrapyard in the sky.

BTRL is pretty dead, though. The team broke up a long time ago.

This mod is really what you want to look at: http://www.moddb.com/games/diaspora

How did I not see this thread before???

I LOVE this game. It is till this day the best space sim period. With the source code project it still can keep up with any modern game.

The story and the combat feels very much like BSG. One of the reason that I enjoyed BSG this much is because it reminded me of this game.

It’s sad that diaspora and BTRL had their fall out… I always wondered if they didn’t break up would we have more than a demo by now…

Watch this vid on youtube with HD turned on. Example of how awesome Freespace2 engine still is with the source code project.

Eventhough it says this is Freespace2 vs Star Trek, I keep feeling that he is flying a Babylon 5 Thunderbolt.

And you will see every major capital ships from the 90s Trek universe.

Since Beyond the Redline was discontinued, there’s still Diaspora.

But no demo has been released as of yet.

Hands down, my favorite space combat simulator of all time. The first one was good, the second one was awesome! It always struck me as very well-organized, very well-written and voice acted. It just had this very grim, haunting, and compelling storyline about these civilizations that kept getting the hell pounded out of them by these totally mysterious and very dangerous aliens.

In case anyone doesn’t know, the folks over at www.hard-light.net are pretty much the folks running the show now as far as FS2 is concerned. They’ve been updating the source code ever since Volition released it, and creating and compiling new ship models, mods and campaigns for even longer.

Diaspora moved to hardlight as well

but still no official releases
