Frakking Awesome Finale

Okay, I don’t know how RDM does it, but he can write the hell out season and series finales.

Since the about season 2 I’ve always been conflicted on how I wanted the series to end. I had a number of expectations that I knew in my mind were all contradictory and could never be resolved to my complete satisfaction:

  1. With the presence of Head Characters and devices like the map to Earth, Eye of Jupiter I wanted the ‘mystical’ aspect of the show the be officially acknowledged is some fashion.

  2. However, I was always concerned that too much explanation of the mystical could come off as cheesy, and I always wanted some level of mystery to remain.

  3. I wanted them to find Earth, and I hoped it would some how connect to our Earth to have direct relevance and commentary on our existence.

  4. However, as some may be able to tell the study of evolution is somewhat important to me, so I was always kind of uneasy (especially in given the popular denial of evolution) with a tie in to our Earth that denied our own natural.

But amazingly the finale managed to thread the needle for me and hit all the main points needing explanation, but still leaving it mysterious. There was direct commentary on our one existence which is so appropriate for a show that started as an allegory for 9/11, but in the end it left a little evolution there as well. Did the evolution aspects make complete sense? Frak no. But any quibbles would be like a physicist worrying about FTL and artificial gravity.
