Forgotten Sci-fi

That made me think that people might enjoy a “Do you remember…” forgotten or obscure Sci-fi thread.
I’m not talking another “must see” thread. Quality and merit are not the issue here.
Rather, this is a thread that should provoke the phrase “Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that show/movie”.
Basically, a sci-fi nerd nostalgia fest.

…and I’m going to start with a sub-set, 70s & 80s Saturday Mornings.

Everyone remembers Johnny Quest, The Jetsons, the animated Star Trek and Land of the Lost, and maybe some remember Return to the Planet of the Apes, Space Ghost, The Herculoids, and Sealab 2020, but does anyone remember:

-The Journey to the Center of the Earth, Fantastic Voyage and Filmation’s fantastic Flash Gordon cartoons?

-that in animated form Droids, Ewoks, Alf, My Favorite Martian and Dr. Smith from Lost in Space returned, Fonzie time traveled, The Partridge Family showed up in 2200 A.D. and Josie and the Pussycats went into Outer Space?

-live action shows like Ark II, Space Academy (also staring Jonathan Harris/Dr. Smith), Jason of Star Command (Staring James Doohan), The Lost Saucer (staring Jim Nabors and Ruth Buzzi), Far Out Space Nuts (staring Bob Denver) and Dr. Shrinker?

…just askin’.
(Yes, I was glued to the TV every Saturday, much to the dismay of my parents.)

That was my Sat. too. Ark II was a favorite for some reason, probably because it was pretty easy to adapt to play as a kid. I somehow managed to miss Jason of Star Command. I should try to dig up both of those.

Ark II reminded me of the Logan’s Run TV show of around the same time if I remember correctly.

I think I was impressed any time shows made working futuristic prop vehicles.
(Logan’s Run had some kind of solar car)

I remember a lot of these from my very yearly youth, but many of them don’t seem to hold up as well in my middle age.
You forgot to mention the live action superhero show Isis.

Didn’t know if I wanted to go Superhero, but since you mentioned it…

The mighty Isis was at least a sister show, if not a true spin-off of Shazam!, featuring DC’s Captain Marvel.

But don’t forget Electra-Woman and Dyna-Girl!

…and Bakshi’s Mighty Heroes (err, coo-coo, coo-coo)

And of course that brings up DC comics shows, including all iterations of Superfriends (teenagers and wonder-mut, Wonder Twins and Gleep, challange of the…), the Batman shows (bat-mite, Adam West voiced, etc.) Superman & Superboy shows, Aquaman & Aqualad on the cool seahorses, Green Lantern & Flash, as well as the Marvel line-ups including all variations of Spider-man (does whatever a spider can, and his amazing friends, or even on the Electric Company) and The Fantastic Four (with the human torch, or replaced by a stupid robot), as well as the earlier Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America throwing his mighty shield.

I’m sure I’m forgetting others too.
…any help?

I love Fantastic Voyage. The sets and stuff they built for it are still impressive. Overall, the special effects hold up very well, especially to be pre-Star Wars. Hopefully they’ll release the Filmation TV series on DVD one day.

Now, I hated He-Man and She-Ra…
But Demon Dogs!
How could I have forgotten Thundar the Barbarian?
…with Ookla the Mok!

Another Forgotton Sci Fi Show does anyone remeber Planet of the Apes Tv show!

Speaking of forgotten… I actually have the “lost” season of the original BSG stored on some DVD’s in my drawer… you know, the after-cancellation season where they find earth.

— Dismal and his collection of craaaaapy SCIFI disks

They still show it from time to time on the sciFi Channel, usually in a day long marathon run.

If I’m remembering correctly, there was a time in the 70s when the Bermuda Triangle, Loch Ness, Big Foot (RE: 6 million dollar man) & UFOs simultaneously entered pop cultural awareness. It was a great time to be a kid.

Anyway, wasn’t there a show called Project Blue Book that was a cross between Dragnet and In Search Of. It showed dramatic reenactments of purported UFO sightings and alien abductions.

It’s funny how shows like that and Nemoy’s broader scoped In Search Of managed to instill both a sense of infinite possibility and wonder, and at least a healthy skepticism if not cynicism.

I know they’re not officially sci-fi,
but just imagine how much sci-fi they begot…

That reminds me.
Anyone else remember Gerry Anderson’s BBC series UFO.
I always thought that it seemed like what was happening on earth while Space: 1999 was taking place on Moon Base Alpha.
(Same mod hair, clothes and cool spacecraft design)

Oh, yeah. UFO was teh bomb. If they weren’t anal about re-releasing anything, more people would have heard about it by now. (S:99, great design, not much more.)

I remember “Project Blue Book”.

I loved “In Search Of”. It was one of my favorites back then. A few years ago there was a remake tried but it wasnt the same.I’d like to see the originals, with Nimoy, again even if they are going to be a bit dated now.

My family took a trip to Florida in the early 80’s and we went see the Coral Castle that was shown on an episode. It was very interesting.

…not much more than perhaps some of the coolest theme music to ever grace the small screen.

I remember watching UFO when it first came out and really enjoyed it. When it came out on DVD a few years ago, I got it, expecting it to be silly camp that doesn’t stand the test of time. OK, the costumes are really funny looking back on them, and some of the science is really bad, but the stories were really well written, and much better then some of the stuff that came out later on TV.
That inpired me to pick up the Space:1999 DVDs and as I went through each DVD, I kept thinking to myself that the next one can’t be as bad as the last one. I was wrong
The music was great, the Eagles and the moon base itself were excellent with great special effects, but it was almost always a rubber monster of the week show with terrible writing.
I’m still keeping the DVDs though.
