Anyone who wants to take the plunge post your target loss (e.g. wanna lose 15 pounds? Post “N+15” The goal is to get to “N”)
Me, I gotta get a scale before I can even figure this out.

N + one jeans size
N+15 exactly for me. Also I need to get my 2 mile run time down to 15.5 mins or under
Iaido !!?
I studied Iaido for about 12 yrs - absolutely love it.
But messed up my shoulder and elbow from it, so can’t practice anymore.
Yeah, admitting my true weight would be hard for me right now too.
Again, it’s not your actual weight you need to post. That’s “N.” (As in “None of your business.”)
You just need to post your current weight (or dress size, or whatever number) as some number +N. E.g., you want to drop 15#? post “N+15” and then you’re committed to getting down to “N” (whatever that is.)
I was only in it for a few months, but I had so much fun. And then my headaches got bad enough that it was unbearable during practice. They’re better now, but I don’t have time for the current class schedule
Also, put me down for N-15. I will fit into my college jeans again, dammit.
I’m at N+35 right now. I’ll start for real when summer school starts on the 18th. The structure of classes makes it easier for me to focus on all of the things I need to do.
So how much does everyone want to lose? I will start with 15.
I don’t do weight stuff - but I would like to be more fit. so no n+ or - anything, but I’m trying to get stronger.
I did 20 sun salutations today My arms may be a bit sore, but I feel a little stronger.
My goal isn’t really about the number, I just remember how I felt and what I could do at that weight, and I want to be there again.
Anybody who is doing swimming as a work-out this summer, check out Swimplan. It’s free, and gives a pretty good workout plan given your fitness level, pool size, etc. Today was the first day I was able to complete the “easy” workout it gave me (800 yards in about 40 minutes–not bad considering that I was dying at 300 yards of the harder workout yesterday!)
I am really thankful you guys started this thread. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I need to do to lose weight… but haven’t really done anything. Where I’m at right now really bothers me. I don’t necessarily need to be ultra-thin but I want to feel healthier and happier about myself.
While I can’t really pay for a gym membership, I do have access to the campus fitness centers where I teach. While the idea of working out around a bunch of 19-year-old athletes isn’t the brightest thing on my horizon, I care way more about feeling better than about comparing myself to anyone else.
I need some help reminding myself that every little bit matters. Sometimes I get so exasperated thinking about how far I have to go that I give up before I’ve begun.
Back in 1998-99 I lost 50 pounds in about eight months. I worked out doing cardio and weights 3-4 days a week (I was a community college student at the time), and felt so good inside and out. In the ten years since then I’ve put that weight back on, plus more.
I’d love to be part of this group. Honestly, to get to my doctor-approved target weight, I’d have to lose so much it is too much to think about. So I’m going to for 30 pounds of weight loss. I’d like to do that in six months, but eight is probably more reasonable.
Where do I sign up? I need a motivating buddy! And I can be one, too.
First off, WELCOME AUDRA!!!
Second, YES! YES! “every little bit does matter”.
Third, DON"T look at the “big picture” right now. I have done the same many times myself and it becomes very upsetting in an instant gratfication society. It’s easier to give up when the goal seems unattainable. Look at little changes in the beginning (e.g. set a “water intake goal” for each day for 1 week).
Fourth, Set realistic, short term goals. 5 lbs, then another 5 lbs, then another. If you see what you do right with the first 5, each 5 after that will get a little easier, rather than looking @ “OMG I have got to lose 30 lbs.”.
Fifth and last, don’t give up on yourself. No matter what life throws at you that day, there is always tomorrow. Make each morning a new beginning.
Count me in! N + 30.
I’m so glad that y’all have started this mutual encourage thread! I’ve been working towards a weight loss goal for the past few months, but life changes have gotten in the way. I’ve been hitting the elliptical and the spin bike pretty hard for the past week and, along with my SlimFast breakfasts & salad lunches, have lost 2 lbs. Pretty excited about that for one week. So now, I’m at N+28.
ME!!
All right!! Way to go Kim! And thanks for the welcomes, BSG Widow and everyone.
I’m in. Write me down for N-15. I have lost about 5 pounds in the last two months from eating smarter and walking more. I got a pedometer to find out how much I walk around in a standard day knowing that they recommend 5,000 steps. At the end of the day I discovered I had walked about 700 steps which blew my mind. As a test I walked a brisk 10 minutes the next day and found that that equalled 700 steps.
So no I try to walk for an hour for lunch and continue to eat better. For me I know that working out is not sustainable. I need to make healther decisions on a regular basis and not crucify myself if I make a mistake (like getting potato chips on a whim). It is so bloody easy to make smart food decisions which pay dividends in the short and long term.
Okay, bit of a setback for me. I woke up this morning and couldn’t move my left shoulder without pain. Stupid breaststroke. Stupid bursitis. I’m giving it a day or two to see if it gets better before I jump back in the water.
Went to the gym tonight, feel great!!
don’t you love the sense of accomplishment you feel after you finish? it’s addicting!
just finished my morning run
