Chuck, that cucumber and tomato tuna salad looks good, I think I’ll try it myself.

I could not walk in to wokr yestyerday or do my personal trainer session this morning as I’ve injured my right heel, shooting pains go up me leg every time i app,y pressure to it, so no exercise for me this week apart form a power plater session on monday . . .

Injuries are frustrating, especially when you’re in the process of getting in shape. It’s amazing how they can derail the best-laid plans. I’m getting back on the wagon myself after hurting my knee and it’s not the best, but it doesn’t suck as bad as I thought it would. Just taking it step by step helps, even though I’d like things to speed up a bit. It’s too bad there isn’t a “lose seventy-five pounds” button I can press.

On the plus side, getting out and around is much, much easier during the summer and I’m enjoying the warm weather. Wolverines!

I told Galaxy Rising I would post the recipe for the salad I had for lunch yesterday:

[ul]
[li]2 raw beets, peeled and died
[/li][li]2 large sweet potatos, peeled diced, then roasted in oven 30 minutes
[/li][li]4 ounces goat cheese
[/li][li]6 cups mixed baby greens
[/li][li]6-8 leaves fresh basil, chopped
[/li][li]sunflower seeds (optional)
[/li][/ul]

This serves 4. I don’t use sunflower seeds. We generally top it with either balsamic vinegar or a light vinaigrette that has 3 parts balsamic vinegar, 1 part dijon mustard, 1 part olive oil.

The raw beets are crunchy and balance the acidity of the balsamic. The sweet potato and goat cheese make the whole thing very savory. It’s filling and delicious.

well after two weeks off due to illness/injury/a wedding I went back to the gym for 30 mins of power plate this evening, not as hard as I’d thought but still a 14 day layoever has led me to thinking me arms are gonna drop off.

walking tomorrow, pwoer plate friday and personal trainer session saturday, so getting back in to it once more.

I’ve been sooooo lazy with going to the gym and bad eatting then I almost feel like handing in my wolverines card :(…I think its just the tiredness just drained the motivation from me big time…I’m not going to undo all the hard work so I’ll get back on the horse.

A quick update for my fellow Wolverines…

I had a lot of trouble the first week integrating more “real food” into my diet. During that first week I’d often be stumped as to what to eat, so I’d end up missing a meal. Bad stuff, because I’d end up short for the day. By week two I was more in the swing of it, planning six daily meals of the appropriate size and content.

The reward for all the work came at my weigh/measure this last weekend. I’m down 9 lbs in the last three weeks, and it’s about 3/4 fat so I dropped about 1.3% body fat. That means I’m on the right track. The weight loss should slow a little, and if all goes well, I’m hoping to continue dropping about 1% a month. (Fingers crossed.) I’m now 193 lbs and 20% body fat.

I know Audra and I have mentioned our trainer before, but I realized we never took a picture with him. So this weekend we snapped a pic after our training sessions:

His name is Mitch, and he’s largely responsible for all the changes we’ve been able to make in the last year and a half. We see him about every other week, and he works out with us that day, adjusting our weekly workout plans and helping us out with nutrition. He’d fit right in with this group: he’s a big comic fan (Thor, X-Men, Green Lantern) as well as a sci-fi and gaming enthusiast. Most importantly, he’s a skilled trainer, and a super-patient guy always ready to make everything around him just a little bit better.

I’ll be taking my first “workout vacation” during the SDCC trip this next week. I’ll continue to choose healthy food (and log it), but I’ll only do workouts as they present themselves. (Assuming, of course, I don’t go stir crazy without them and do body-weight exercises in the morning or evening in the room – or do a gym trip with Topgun to his local 24 Hour.)

Hope everyone’s doing well. I haven’t seen a lot of traffic here recently. How’s things?

Things are screamin’ busy, man! lol!

I really wish I’d kept my 10-month contract with the district instead of upping to the 11-month! ack!

Missed bootcamp last week due to our freakish weather extremes and engagements. I do NOT handle heat + humidity well. I don’t like it. No, sir, I don’t like it at all.

I am so San Diegofied it’s not even funny. When the shiz comes down, it better be cataclysmic- I can’t take slow death by weather! lol!

Heading to bootcamp tonight to suffer through our ‘Tour de Balboa’, our trainer has recently devised this new Torture Course as a change-up from the Hill of Death. I swear he sometimes has soulless eyes… shudder

been nice knowin’ y’all… lol… whine

I think you might need a new avatar. Congrats

Well, trying to get back into it. Haven’t been on my elliptical much the last couple weeks until just now, but I was at camp half of last week, so got a lot of walking in at least.

Looking great Chuck & Audra!!

Hey gang!

Well, I’ve been notoriously absent from the forums and twitter recently - sry about that. Things got crazy busy at work, and that started a bit of a spiral: working longer hours, skipping the gym, not packing lunches / eating out, hitting the snacks at the office, getting supremely bummed out about not working out and eating poorly, putting back on a couple pounds, etc. You get the gist of it.

However, the worst of the work-related insanity is over (figure we’re half way there), and I hope to be able to press release all the impending goodness with our company in the first week of Aug.

The good news is that I’ve been back at the gym hardcore for a couple of weeks now, eating clean again, and my head is back in the game. I’m hoping to start tweeting again and posting with more regularity

I’ve missed the support of the fitness club gang, but no one to blame but myself…

Wolverines!

Hey Wolverines. I am still working out and eating right. I just don’t post on the thread much lately but I still love reading everyone’s posts. I guess I’m just one of those people that feels weird talking about themselves a lot. I’ll try to be more consistant since I know how much seeing everyone else’s progress here is inspiring to me. I should contribute more.

So to start - I am starting the C25K and training for a local half marathon, so I am really excited about that. I’ve lost 65 pounds so far and I am working to tighten up things and focus on building muscle on the back half of my weight loss.

P.S. It’s really fun shopping for clothes now

well I did an hour with my personal trainer today as part of the 16 week fitness programme I’m unuterably bollixed but I’ve also changed my food routine swearing (mostly) off wheat and focused upon a lot of protein.

Ity damned near killed me but I did manage to finish, only got two sets of the 8 exercises I do in, he wants to up that th three sets, 8 excercises in ten minute cycles, mostly resistence training.

I will get fit and present @dragonessana an adonis like body in December, you guys are an inspiration

I was going to start a gym regimen back up today, but it rained this afternoon and now it’s 20 degrees cooler so I think I’m gonna bail on the gym and go mountain biking. I’ll go to the gym tomorrow, just like I’ve been saying for 6 months;)

So my kids sign up for Tae Kwon Do, I get back into the groove with that, the school adds a Muay Thai program (way more intense cardio and contact), and I sign up for that. Did my first full-impact workout in…man… six years last night. I wore sweats for it, and was soaked at the end. I probably caught it at a weird time, but I weighed myself, and I was two pounds lighter than my lowest recent weight.

Knock on wood, my back is holding up. I’m stretching like hell before and after, and that’s a big help.

Anyhow, I’m sore today, and it’ll get worse as the day goes on, but it feels good.

That’s teh awesome, Ferris. Pushin’ through is what it’s all about.

re: sweats, I’m a big fan of the modern stay-dry stuff. It’s kinda weird at first, but you get used to it and it makes the whole workout routine a lot more comfortable as you feel pretty dry even when the clothing is soaked. Beats me how it works, but it does. That said, I don’t go for the expensive crap. (I could give a s*** about fashion. I just wanna be comfortable at the gym.) I generally buy workout shorts and shirts from Target (the Champion stuff they have there works great and is super easy on the wallet) or sometimes from the Adidas outlet (or other mall outlets) when the stuff’s marked down to Target/Champion prices.

So to start - I am starting the C25K and training for a local half marathon, so I am really excited about that. I’ve lost 65 pounds so far and I am working to tighten up things and focus on building muscle on the back half of my weight loss.
Baconface

That is amazing Baconface, I’ve been super lazy lately so I’m going to get back on the horse, too. I really want to have made a lot of progress by the next meetup. Wolverines!

Yum! I can’t wait to try it. Thanks so much for posting. I love salads like this and the one Chuck posted with the tomatoes/cucumber/tuna. So light and yet filling

That’s great! Glad to hear it and hopefully it will be something that you enjoy and can look forward to : )

I agree with Chuck here! I am a huge fan of the Champion line at Target. It’s not too expensive and will last you forever. They have different styles for every item of clothing so if you favor something particular (i.e. length of shorts, loose or tighter shirts, etc) you can usually find what you’re most comfortable in. Plus it’s all the lightweight material so you don’t feel like you’re weighed down, especially if you’re doing high energy and a lot of movement. And it makes you feel like a champion ; )

My update: I’ve gotten back on track for the most part. My shoulder has stopped hurting pretty consistently. Every once in a while I’ll move it the wrong way and it’ll be sore for a short amount of time but generally it’s good. I think a big help to that has just been to not use it still and switch out some movements on certain routines to ‘baby’ it a little. I have even started to get up in the mornings to go for runs which always used to be a great way for me to start the day because I feel like no matter what happens I will have accomplished something every day and there are no excuses for being tired after work or having to work so late that it just doesn’t really make sense to try to go to the gym. So hooray wolverines!!

As Hulk Hogan would say, thanks, bruthas and sistas!

Do you sweat as much in the Champion C9 Target stuff? I like the bulky all-cotton stuff. (Champion sweats, including my prefered workout sweatshit, which I’ve had since 1993, and it’s still hangin’ tough.) I like to feel the heat when I’m working out. But having 10 pounds of sopping wet sweats isn’t so cool, now that you mention it. I’m still very much at the point where weight loss is one of my major goals, so every little bit of sweat I can squeeze out of me helps…

My back feels OK two days later, but I’m still taking it easy for the week before I go in for a hellacious session Saturday.

Wolverine-age!

Holy cow! everyone is doing great work!

The hub and I will be starting the next 21 day challenge at the end of this month. 21 days non-stop, and we’ll be paying better attention to our food intake this time.

Taking next week off for SDCC! I do NOT want to get sick after the con again because I ran myself into the ground! ack!

I guess rest in important, too… duh!

I’ve been keeping up with my yoga despite the blistering heat - happily my instructor has been sensitive about practice in humid, hot July, so I have learned some techniques that still help build flexibility and strength, but without making me feel miserable in the heat.

We’re moving in a few weeks (OK it’s almost down to 2, I’m in denial), but spouse and I are enthusiastic about our new place, since we’ll have access to exercise equipment both in our new apartment complex, and at the gym of the school where I’ll be teaching. I’m hoping to add some cardio (elliptical?) in addition to my yoga routine - which I’m trying to work in as a daily practice. But it doesn’t always work :stuck_out_tongue:

Saturday:

9-9:30 am: stretching in prep for Tae Kwon Do/Muay Thai

9:30: drive to TKD place.

9:45: more stretching

10-11: muay thai/kickboxing class. hella cardio. eventually I wind up sparring with badass instructor, who hands my ass to me.

11-11:30 alternate catching breath and re-stretching

11:30-12:15: regular TKD class. wind up sparring with badass instructor, who hands my ass to me.

12:15-1:15 TKD black belt club class.

2-3: home, cool-down stretching between various interruptions

3-10: staining deck. lots of sit up, sit down, scoot around. good core work. back was killing me, but I wuz gonna finish it, cuz no way was I coming back to it.

10:30-11:30 p.m.: stretch like a motherfrakker. it was late & I was tired, but I knew any time spent stretching would pay off exponentially on the morrow.

Sunday: ouch.

Monday: double ouch.

but at least, knock on wood, my back’s holding up.
