"Fitness Club" Thread

Thanks for the suggestions Phaze, Casilda, and Edoz. I’m skeptical about the walking thing, but I’m certainly going to give it a try. I think taking the iPod and leaving the stress might make the difference. We’ll see. Lots of great pointers, Edoz. Thanks again.

Continued logging food and made it to the gym four times again this week.

I hope that I wasn’t making out that the gym was the be all and end all of how to get exercise. I agree - if you find an activity that you love, you’ll end up going because you love your activity and the whole getting fit won’t even be in your mind :)…

I think I ate to much today :(…my belly hurts :frowning:

Losing the bodyfat at the moment, so just trying to let the body know that I want to keep my muscle :)…I felt it today, took family to a country park where they had a farm shop and animals. The boy loved it, although Peppa Pig (a cartoon pig) didn’t look like the real life pig and he was well puzzled by it. He loved the owls, ponies, owls, and turtles. Walked quite a lot and I got the most major DOMs from the previous leg workout

What I prefer to do other than walking is hiking. It gives a better workout in a shorter distance and you are away from exhaust fumes which is better for your lungs. The scenery is better and you get to interact with wildlife, like chipmunks and squirrels which always gives me a smile.

Squirrel!!!

And mosquitoes

Of course, I’m one to talk, considering that I’m an Eagle Scout and have been an assistant scoutmaster of a Boy Scout troop for 4.5 years

^^^^^ This!

I personally hate running and being at “the gym,” so having a Wii Fit (though it’s not perfect), a yoga instructor I really connect with, and the will to schedule some “me” time that involves exercise have done wonders for me. Sure, I may not be the fittest person ever, nor will I be running a marathon any time soon, but I’m keeping with plans that help my fitness level, so I count it a win.

I love hiking too, which is why I can’t wait for summer, can’t exactly do a lot of hiking in Wisconsin winters, at least not enjoyable hiking!

Case in point this morning.
I stayed up way late last night playing Eve.
Team ride at 7am, but I stayed in bed. 7:05 the phone rings.
“Doz, where are you?”
“In bed, I’m not riding”
“We’ll be there in 15”
So yeah, 15 minutes later there were 10-12 bike racers in my driveway.
After about 5 minutes on the bike I was happy I got up.

ok progress report

current weight: 105 kilos even /231 pounds
weight loss this week: 1.1 kilos or 2.42 pounds
overall weight loss: as above
I’m happy enough with this initial loss, I didn’t make major food intake changes and only started light exercise on thursday, I’ll be doing a four mile walk this morning but, ,as per my own programme I intent to take every third day off. I’ll report in again next week, hopefully with a similar weight loss.

More radical food changes are being implemented in the next week and I’ll be keeping closer track on what I eat, I’ll let ye know how I get on.

on the “I should get up and hang washing out, it’s a rare dry day in spring Mayo” ID

It’s Sunday, my day of rest and I’m feeling pretty good. Last week I made it to all my scheduled classes. For a few weeks I’ve been missing days here and there but it’s good to know that my workout plan is actually doable.

I feel a little weird posting here, because I’m already fit and have been for years. I don’t want to feel like I’m butting in, but I’m gonna add a couple of things because I think they are helpful
Edoz

Don’t feel weird, I know I like to hear from everybody and it really does help when people share their experience.

. . . also find a physical activity that you really connect with. Something that feels like it’s a part of you, like your body was made for it and you won’t have to try to motivate yourself to do it.
Edoz

I’ve got to work on this. I’ve been lifting weights and doing my cardio pretty consistently, but I’ve stopped doing the other things that I really enjoy (biking, swimming, dance class, etc.). I don’t mind using an elliptical machine but I should change it up so I don’t get bored.

Congratulations phazedout, 2.42 pounds is a great amount of weight to lose in week.

I agree - if it was up to me, gym would be a tool rather than a focus of keeping fit, I would rather do martial arts, gymnastics, rock climbing, canoeing or anything like that to keep fit then doing sets and reps in the gym.

On other news, I was in a weight loss challenge on another forum (leighpeele.com) and while I didn’t win the £1000 prize. I did get an honourable mention.

I’m Decosta (the one with the snazzy and uber cool undies)…

Right now, after son goes to sleep, I’m going to be eatting a home made kebab and salad - it’s going to be yummy :)…

Up 5 lbs in the last couple weeks – damn. Gotta redouble my efforts. Though, as long as the spike back up is less than the previous loss, I’m still net loss, right? RIGHT? :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you still using My Net Diary?

I bought myself a set of resistance bands last week as a ‘Frak yeah! I lost 25 pounds!’ present to myself. I. Love. Them. Between my new love of the bands and jumping around to the new Tron: R3configur3d album I’m actually down 32lbs.

Where did you get them? I’ve been thinking about it so that I might work out at home…

Mine are from Amazon. I like having them around.

Fitness update from me:

I have been solidly making 3x/week for the last 3 weeks. I’ve been doing a pretty good job eating, except for the Nutella tonight (whatevs, I’m hormonal, totally needed some choco, I’ll work it off on Wednesday). The downside is that the foot pain has returned. I’m back to weekly PT. The doc has told me that I can keep working out, as long as I keep it low-impact.

I love Sean’s Wolverines shirt! I totally need one.

I got them from Amazon too, and they are not very expensive. I have a set of the tube type (with handles) and a set of the bands(wide and flat with no handles). I prefer the bands, I feel a lot more resistance with them. I have a set of the medium resistance and the heavy resistance. When I double them up, they kill my arms and legs!

If you have a pool which is handy I would suggest doing light exercise in the pool until your foot feels better. The water will give you bouancy which will put less stress on your foot, and the water will also provide resistance at the same time which will make your exercises more profitable. A double plus for you!

Frakkin A Right! Keep going bro.

WOLVERINES !

grrr. arrrg.

Perfect! I need to order a few things from Amazon, resistance bands come to me!

My wife tells me that set-backs are natural and rebounding from them asap is the important part. I think inspiration is an important part too. I’ll say again that hearing Chuck talk about the gym and seeing his results in the meetup pics was a tremendous inspiration to me because I actually saw somebody have results. I’ve also subscribed to Men’s Health (which has a little too many pictures of perfect bodies for my taste), and it has lots of stories about guys who lost weight and how they did it. I’m trying to find some inspiration in those as well.

Good work, Bacon. I like that idea of an appropriate reward for losing that much weight. I think I’ll have to come up with something like that as well.

I went for a walk/job with the iPod on Sunday, and I do think it helped me stay on track.

Although Saturday was a bust. I went out with friends and ordered a “single order” of buffalo wings and two beers. When I calculated at home, that turned out to be about 1600 calories. Next time I’ve vowed to get a half order, a salad, and a single pint.
