Firefly-esque music

So, I am listening to one of my OTHER favorite podcasts Radiolab.

On it this week they have a woman playing “A quantum cello” which basically means as she plays she records herself and creates layers of sound. It is very, very cool…what struck me however is how very Firefly it sounded. I nearly drove off the road when she started…the beginning banter wasn’t very interesting, but it does provide some critical background so you understand what she is doing.

When she begins it is amazing. I am seriously considering purchasing an album or two.

Enjoy! You can listen to it straight from their website if you don’t want to hunt it down in iTunes.

Monahan’s Mudder’s Milk

Its an interesting sound and she’s very creative in her use of it; of coarse i’ve always been a sucker for a cello.

nice find thanks

ok this is awesome. i especially like how she uses those rich percussive sounds. i think for christmas this year i should oughta give my cello-playing cousin a cello pickup and a loopstation.

None 'o these is quite the same, but here’s some rad non-traditional cello music:

And the Deadwood soundtrack has some nice, eclectic old-timey music on it.

They can’t take the sky from us

I heard that on Radiolab - truly amazing. The Firefly-esque component didn’t strike me right away but now that you mention it…

I also did not make that connection initially… but I see what you mean. Either way, I went right out and DLd some Zoe Keating.
