So, during the big attack on the colony, there are a bunch of raptors that are shown jumping from inside and near BSG. When Boomer threatened to jump inside BSG a few episodes back, Tigh said “it will rip her guts out,” or something to that effect, and when Boomer DID jump near the ship there was major damage. Is there something I’m missing or is this just an inconsistency?
The side of the pylon blew out.
well the old girl herself jumped from within and didn’t seem to do much to cavil’s colony, at least not in comparison to nuclear warheads.
ships have jumped near other ships before and only caused some bouncing of them so obviously jumping stresses the space around the jump point, but if the object is sturdy it should withstand it. The galactica has microfractures through the entire ship. I think that was the difference.
a bigger surprise is that the old girl jumped with her pods out. Except afterwards she nearly shook apart and one of the birds on her deck got shook out.
The side of the pylon completely exploded after they jumped out of it
i’ll have to watch it again. i guess i expected the whole thing to completely come undone in spectacular fashion.
So did I.
I expected it to be like, sucked in and explodey, but guess not.
Thanks for asking that. I was wondering about it myself, but was too chicken to ask. Was it some kind of special hangar deck? (It looked a bit different with all the cool purple-y triangle glass window things, or am I just crazy, and the hangar decks always looked like that?)
It was the starboard pod which since before the miniseries has been a museum complete with a gift shop.
Notice they only ever land/launch from the port pod?
That was the hanger pod that was turned into a museum at the beginning of the miniseries.
There was some damage. It may be that the reason for having extending pylons is in case of just such an emergency. Boomer’s raptor jumped near the ‘primary hull.’
I hear that we didn’t see all that there was to the destruction of the colony. It may be that the bucket caused more damage than was shown, and we’ll (presumably) see it in the DVD version.
Oh? Was that in the RDM 'cast, or somewhere else? From what I noticed in the RDM 'cast it was mainly the Boomer-as-a-Rookie flashbacks (including her first kiss with Tyrol) and extended bits of the strip club (including Ellen doing a striptease).
He may be referring to what Mr. Moore said here:

Specifically this part
Moore: The final (edit) came out a little less clear on that level than I sort of intended… The idea was that when Racetrack hits the nukes, they smack into the Colony and it takes it out of the stream swirling around the singularity, and it fell in (to the singularity) and was torn apart. But as we were cutting the show for time, and taking out frames, one of the things that became less apparent was that the Colony was doomed. The intention was that everyone aboard the Colony perished.
But I THINK he also mentioned something about it during the cast, I may be wrong though in which case you have every right to set me ablaze.
