FF-Rewatch: Shindig

Wow – and you thought Kaylee was attractive in her dungarees with the teddy-bear! Plus, this episode makes it abundantly clear that when Jayne agrees with you, maybe you should think twice about your opinion.

Regardless of why, you really should take some time this week to pop in Shindig and give it a look. You’ll be a better person for it. Well, OK. You’re alright.

Best part of “Shindig”: finding out Kaylee’s full name (“Miss Kaywinnit Lee Frye”).

Kaywinnit.

I enjoy this episode for many reasons. Mainly for how it develops Mal’s character. When he explains to Inara the difference between him not respecting her profession(calling her a whore) and Atherton not respecting her as a person, it shows what kind of person he is, namely someone with principles.

Also, I love Kaylee in the fancy dress talking engines with a bunch of high-to-do men. So great.

Oh yeah -that was awesome! Kayle is so nieve when it comes to “girl” stuff but I absolutely loved how easily she could relate to the men. Consequently, it made me giggle that this made the other women so jealous!

I really like it when that Random old guy comes up and tells up the stuck-up witch-girl. Awesome.

Kaylee in the dress
Mal being “Okay”
half nekkid Zoe

and the birth of a new phrase corpsified

and i for one second badgers thought "ta for a great night "

The twelve year old sat down on the couch while I watched this episode. After 15 seconds of Mal and Inara bickering on the ship, he says, “they like each other.” Now I know this, but the heat between them is so hot the football/skate boarder/Wii kid got it in an instant. I love that. I also love how these feelings between them never take away from what is going on, I don’t know how they manage to do that. I think the unspoken (or un-acted upon) drama is a huge part of this show’s appeal.

I would have LOVED to have seen Jayne dressed up for a shindig!

That just might say more about you than you son or the show…

I would have LOVED to have seen Jayne dressed up for a shindig!

Ditto that. I’m sure he’d clean up nice, but seeing him try to navigate the ball would have been priceless. Pity we didn’t get another four and a half seasons, because I’m sure they would have revisited that at some point.

Two more gutbusters for me, love the writing on this show:

Jayne: “We was just about to spring into action, Captain, a complicated escape and rescue op.”
Wash: “I was gonna watch. It was very exciting.”

and

Inara: “Are you in pain?”
Mal: “Absolutely. I got stabbed, you know. Right here.”
Inara: “<ugh> I saw.”
Mal: “Don’t care much for fancy parties. Too rough.”
Inara: “It wasn’t a entirely a disaster…”
Mal: “I got stabbed. Right here.”

Oh I’ve just fallen in love with this episode. Great stuff, Kaylee and the strawberry, Jayne cheats at cards, and poor Mal, he’s in love with Inara head over heels and he’s so shy he has to hide his feelings behind all the kidding around.

Actually, Kaylee looks kind of stupid in that dress and WAY HOTTER in what she usually wears and I’ll come right out and say it, I’m starting to nurse a crush on her.

It is funny, I have always enjoyed this episode but don’t rank it in my top 5. Great, classic moments in this with some of my favorite lines.

“Mercy is the mark of a great man.”

MAL STABS Atherton!

“Guess I’m just a good man.”
He STABS him again!

“Well, I’m all right”

as much as i love that, i love the exchange that follows it more than anything else in the episode.

“you know, you didn’t have to wound him.”
“no, it was just funny.”
