very nice… and kind of sad, too
I really have a problem with Uhura being labeled Useless Girl.
GRRRR!
Pepper Potts: no, no, yes, no, no, yes, yes, yes, THE SHREW.
Wife of CardinalFang: yes, yes, no, of course not, PERFECT HUMAN/WARRIOR WOMAN
I’d like to see how Valeria (from Conan) fares in this web but I don’t know enough about her character to say if she’s three dimensional or not. Heck, I’m not sure what “three dimensional” means in reference to personality.
Funny stuff, I could play with this thing all day!
I think Gwen DeMarco from Galaxy Quest would have been more apropriate… Though in the sixties you must confess they made little use of Uhura’s character, I think many of the writers did not know what to do with her or were scared of the controversy surrounding her (it was a volatile time in race relations remember). It was not until the novels from the 70’s onward that she was give the opportunity to truly shine.
There are many other female characters in movies you could choose from that are considered useless. Uhura as a character is one thing, but as an important symbol is another. In that respect, Uhura is not a useless character. She is, IMO, one of the most important characters in TV history.
I get the flowchart and all that, but I think there are many other choices they could have made.
I don’t quite get why it says that Mom (from Futurmama) doesn’t have a family. She has 3 kids.
