Fellowship of the Ring Frak Party 11/20 @ 10 PM ET

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWf3iJjqYCM

lol–I’d started the 2nd disc too

I also liked the shot of the Council arguing, reflected in the Ring. There really is some fantastic cinematography - not only technically, but also in terms of how it services the story. Lots of meaning gets conveyed in the visuals, where exposition would just bog down the pace of the film.

And he’s the lyrics in case anyone is interested.

[CENTER][b]Lord of the Rings Lyrics

[JERMAINE AND BRET]
Frodo, don’t wear the ring.
I know it’s very tempting.
Yes, you will appear to disappear,
But the dark riders they’ll know you’re there.
Yes, Lord Sauron has many spies’

[EUGENE as Saruman]
Many spies, have many eyes’

[JERMAINE AND BRET]
One ring to bind them, to find them,
One ring to rule them all,
One ring to bind them, one to find them,
One ring to rule them ALLLLLLL!!!
Yea, Little Frodo!
You’ve got to rule them, Frodo, rule them with the ring Come on ruuuule them
with your ring!

[EUGENE as Saruman]
Lord Sauron has many spies, beasts and birds.

[MEL as Arwen]
If you want him, come and claim him!

[BRET as Frodo]
Do they, Gandalf’

[MURRAY as Gandalf]
I am not a conjurer of cheap tricks!

[JERMAINE as Sam]
I can’t carry the ring
But I can carry you, Mr. Frodo.

[DAVE as Aragorn]
You have my sword,

[BRET as Legolas]
And my bow,

[DAVE as Gimli]
And my axe!

[MEL as Arwen]
Noro nim mish fir mar nim nor!

[JERMAINE as Sam]
Mordor’

[DAVE as Aragorn]
We’ll never make it.
There’s thousands of them and only nine of us’

[BRETas Frodo with ring]
Ohhhh’

[DAVE as Aragorn]
We made it’

[BRET as Frodo]
Hurray, we made it.

[BRET AND JERMAINE]
Yo Frodo, what you doin’ wearing the ring’
All powerful jewelry, is that your new thing’
I know it’s hard when you’re little more than 3 foot 4
Your little ass so close to the floor.
Trying to lead the fellows to the gates of Mordor
The Fellowship!
(Yea the fellowship)
I don’t rap about bitches and hos,
I rap about witches and trolls,
just passing on the words of the Elven king,
Wisdom to all
Frodo! Don’t wear the ring!

[JERMAINE AND BRET]
Frodo don’t wear the ring,
The magical bling bling,
You’ll never be the Lord of the Rings [/b][/CENTER]

Since it’s a slow time, what with the intermission and all, I just want to comment on how beautiful the sword Arwen carries is. It’s a little Japanese, and a little Arabic, but all Elven. It is a gorgeous piece of art, but also looks convincingly lethal. The guys at WETA really know their stuff.

Also, did anyone notice how worn Isildur’s gloves were? Every time they did a close-up of him holding the Ring, I was actually paying more attention to the gloves. They look lived in; like someone actually swung a sword a lot while wearing them.

Now that dang song is in me head.

There were two guys that made all of the chain mail out of rubber rings. They rubbed the prints off of a couple of their fingers putting the stuff together.

When I watched the extras on DVD, I was totally amazed by the amount of work they put in. This was a labor of love and worthy of it.

'Tis catchy, ain’t it?

You’d think with all the brain cells I’ve destroyed I wouldn’t be able to retain anything. Proven wrong again.

And Sting is precisely how I pictured it. When I first read the books (25 years ago or so) I sketched out my idea of what it would look like, and damned if the movie version isn’t 95% the same. I think my pommel was a little different.

Aw Elrond is getting all choked up.

That scene with Bilbo damn scary. And shifts right away from scary to emotional.

Holis everyone… since I don’t have the DVD, I’m just reading through the party and feeling jealous…

Don’t throw it in the fire, then

You all will recall that I’m all about the music love - though my favorite themes are in Two Towers and ROTK… nevertheless, it’s really lovely and suits the films so. very. well.

I’ve gotten over my disappointment… when it first came out I was totally with you, but over time I’ve become so used to the film version (and when given the choice, would rewatch the film rather than reread the novels… my JOB is reading novels, so yeah) that I don’t notice the absence anymore.

Hahaha so true.

What, does no one else take elevenses??

Though the Eowyn/Faramir bit got banished to a smile and a short shot at the end of the trilogy. But Eowyn is the character I most identify with so, yeah. I’m kind of sensitive about it.

Exactly… because Tolkien, though awesome, has some issues with gender and race (ahem, the bad guys? Anyone??)

Yes, yes yes. the scene where he sends Frodo away and then struts out to beat on the Uruk-hai?? Just awesome.

Legolas is beautiful. But isn’t that the point?

Yes - my best friend used to make that face at me because he knew it freaked me out. Not cool… thank goodness he stopped doing that!! Because that’s the scariest bit - evil within those closest to us… shiver…

The landscape and scenery is beautiful.

How did he make that face? That’s talent.

Happy to have you anyway, Cas.

I love how Gandalf says ‘Saruman’ like a curse.

They did it with a mix of GGI morphing and a mask and Ian Holm’s great acting.
